Marilyn(Chapter 1)

The beautiful brunette, Marilyn, stood in front of the mirror with the silky black Armani gown pressed against her body. She was already twenty-five minutes late and her indecisiveness wasn't making things better. She threw the gown back on the chase and picked up the red gown she held in her hands earlier. It had a plunging neckline and an open back that she adored but such a dress might make her look too promiscuous, she thought. Picking up the black gown again she held both dresses up side by side. She was definitely going to be late.

"Wear the black one." Her heart almost dropped as the sound of Lucas' deep masculine voice sounded through her closet. Marilyn turned around to see Lucas staring at her petite frame clothed in nothing but a lace black bra and panty. He was standing up against the door frame of her closet dressed in his shiny black tux with his arms tucked into his pants pocket. "I hate to tell you what to do, love but you are already late for the banquet. So please, wear the black dress."

Ignoring all the questions running through her head, like how Lucas managed to be standing in her closet which meant that he somehow made his way through her locked front door, she instead asked "I thought you were going to meet me there?"

"That was the original plan." Lucas drew his hands from his pants pocket and walked over to where she was standing. "However, after standing alone at the gala for almost half an hour I started to think you weren't going to make an appearance and decided to escort you there myself."

"And why would you think I wouldn't make an appearance?" Marilyn asked the question in a rhetorical fashion. She very well knew the answer. Lucas took her left hand in his and looked down at the enormous engagement ring he had given her almost a week ago.

"Something tells me that you aren't too thrilled about sharing our news." Lucas drew his eyes from the ring and placed it back on her face. He stared at her as if trying to find the answer in her eyes. Marilyn knew he was trying to hide the hurt he felt when she was constantly avoiding his efforts of telling the people in his life about their engagement. She loved him more than words could explain but she doubted that how much love she had for him would make their story any less "preposterous". Lucas met Marilyn on a business trip to Paris, France. Marilyn was vacationing in Paris like she did every summer. She knew Paris was the city of love, and many people went there just for the idea of falling in love. Never in a million years did she think that it would happen to her. She knew Paris like the back of her hand, so she was the perfect person to give Lucas' driver directions to a building that he was having a very important meeting in. Lucas had stayed in his car going over his files when he glanced out the window and saw the woman who would end up stealing his heart. Her eyes shone bright in the sun and when she smiled he promised he'd never forget it. By the time he had gathered himself to go outside and see the woman face to face she was already on her way down the busy street. All he could see was her curly dark hair bouncing up and down with every step she took. And those legs! Lucas had never seen such smooth legs in his life.

Thoughts of her invaded his mind numerous times throughout his meeting. He had lost focus just trying to remember the strange color of her eyes. She was simple and extraordinarily sexy all at the same time. He tried to figure out why this lady was haunting his thoughts. He had seen many girls as pretty as her but never did they become the center of his thoughts. He had surprised himself at how long after he saw her he would spend just trying to put the pieces of her face together. He surprised himself even more when he went through so much trouble as to obtain the security footage of his driver talking to her so he could run her face through a database and figure out where she lived. He was definitely acting out of character. Lucas Van Beauton was not a man crazy about ladies. He was rarely ever seen in the media, let alone with someone of the opposite sex, which is very hard considering he is the CEO of a multi-national billion dollar company. He took pride in his privacy and enjoyed the simple life. He was definitely not acting like himself. He realized this when he was standing outside of Marilyn's hotel door for almost fifteen minutes before he decided to knock. Before his knuckles could even touch the door it flew open to reveal a dumbfounded Lucas and a surprised Marilyn. He was still holding his hand in the air when she asked him who he was.
