Charlie
I catch a glimpse of her bizarre red hair and my feet are pounding the pavement to reach her.
"HEY! WAIT UP!" I call out. She turns in my direction for the briefest moment and then takes off faster than before. Rage pulses through my veins and I have to take a minute to contain my calm posture. I race after my twin sister and I'm right behind her when her bitch of a friend Ava, starts yabbering about me. I stand there, frozen as if doing the Mannequin Challenge, listening.
"Charlie?" Courtney pauses and meets my eyes. "Yeah well she's as boring as ever!" Courtney's words slap me in the face hard, pain shoots through me and I stand there, humiliated. My face soon to be beetroot red. Coincidentally, Elizabeth, my best friend, comes to my rescue. By taking my arm and twirling me around to face her. Her voice is high-pitched as she speaks and I stare at her face which is sunburnt, unable to say hello.
"OMG! OMG!" she squeals. "How are you?" Elizabeth's high-pitched voice has turned serious as her face holds concern. I sigh and give her my brightest smile.
"Sure, fine" I say casually waving her question away. "What happened exactly" I ask raising an eyebrow.
"Well you know Fiji and all, parents pushed me out into the sunshine" she groans and I laugh.
"I feel you!"
"So how's Courtney?", she says gesturing to her.
"Liz, she's gotten worse. Mum says it's a phase but I don't know."
"Don't worry 'bout it, I'm here for you!", she says with a reassuring smile and embraces me. We walk towards the school doors and I excuse myself to go to the bathroom. I enter the bathroom and let my blonde hair loose, then put it into its usual bun. I adjust my skirt and shirt and wash my face with cold water. Then walk out with a fresh smile on my face. I enter the door to homeroom just as the bell rings and get a cold stare from Courtney. I collapse into my chair next to Brianna. She looks up from her book and smiles.
"Reading the Savage Song", I ask. She gives a slight nod.
"How is it?" I say trying to make small talk.
"Gori." She answers. No point in making conversation so I grab out my own book and begin reading. Reading is an addiction, something that fabricates a beautiful reality except it is nothing like the one I live in, this world that lives on hierarchy and evil has really nothing for me, but I hold onto all hope.
"Alright everyone, notices." the teacher goes on about events and what-not. "Assembly at period 4 and lastly, congratulations to Aiden White who had already last year secured the spot as captain of Rugby team! Meeting at lunch in room 9". Aidan White... I'm guessing another jock, soon to be Courtney's new boyfriend, I just know it! The bell rings and everyone rushes out except me. I pack up my book and as I walk out the teacher smiles.
"Have a nice day, Charlie."
"You too, Miss Connor", I add before I disappear out of the door. As I walk out I glance at Courtney snickering to Ava and staring at me. As I walk past them, I hear the words 'suck-up' and rage is right around the corner!
Courtney
I tightly gripped the strap of my bag as I made my way to the school gates. Before I could take another step, with the yelling of my twin sister Charlie stopped me. "HEY! WAIT UP!" This only made me walk faster. I still question to this day how she has friends, as I don't understand why anyone would want to be seen with such an unattractive dork.
I entered the gates, only to be greeted with my closest friend Ava. "Heyy girl! Long-time no see!" I laughed at that, seeing as we only hung out last weekend shopping for clothes. "So, what do you think will be in store for this year?" Ava linked arms with me. "I don't know, maybe this year we can make it ours." I answered. Everyone at Perth High knew who we were. "Oh, and how's that sister of yours going?" "Charlie? Yeah well she's still boring as ever." We laughed together, catching a glimpse of her in the corner of my eye. She looked hurt, but why would I care? The bell rung, marking that we needed to make our way to homeroom. "See you in class Ava." "See ya!"
I made my way to homeroom, looking down at the path in front of me. I was then stopped in my tracks by a teacher, "Courtney! What are you doing walking around like that? Fix up your uniform! You should never walk around with your shirt out and skirt rolled up like that! We pride ourselves in our uniform here at Perth High! Why can't you be more like your sister Charlie?!" I rolled my eyes, slowly tucking my shirt in, waiting for the teacher to continue her ways. As soon as she walked off, shirt was straight back out. I don't really care about these uniforms. 'Be like your sister', yeah right. I'm my own person! I hate the fact that people can compare me to someone else all they like, all because they're my twin sister. God, I hate it! I'm so much better than her anyway.
I walked into homeroom, my usual seat untouched. I pulled back the chair and slumped down. Homeroom, boring as ever. I pulled out my phone and started to scroll through Instagram as the teacher started to read out the daily notices. "- And congratulations to Aiden White who had already last year secured the spot as captain of rugby team! Meeting at lunch in room 9." Aiden White? Barely heard of him. I know almost everyone, even though I'm only in Year 9. Maybe I should check him out later...
