Author Notes

Believe me, you will be confused at the beginning of this book, if not, praise. Stick with me, all questions will be answered in time.

Ch. 1:

He skulked around the bushes as the other set of warriors dispersed among the pavilion. Each footstep could be heard amongst the silence, James hiding behind the crate across from him. He was always so acrid, taking nobody’s advice but his own because he was too supercilious to realize that each decision he made was wrong. Hiding behind a wooden crate was an easy fix for the people coming after the two of them. While Jeremy was safe behind the brick, the one seeming panacea for a shooting, James was getting splinters in his eyes from blasted wood. The crate was hollow and empty, making it just as easy for the bullet to crack through to his body. He had to give him props though, James did have a certain suave with his shooting, so adroit with his aim.

“A little assistance would be greatly appreciated about now,” He muffled, another edge of the crate busting from an incoming bullet. Surprisingly, nobody was shooting at Jeremy, who had come up with a plan of attack that would only chastise him in the process.

Jeremy laughed slightly, swinging around the corner and sending a bullet straight through a man’s chest. The man in red stood there, pure awe. Never had he seen such precision. A bullet hole, strait through the heart. Telling by the buffeting arisen from the suited men, they’d never had a target practice course in their whole life.

“You mindless fool, so caught up in yourselves.” The larger man with a bowler hat looked at the two of them, his British voice dry and face brittle. “I’ve lived my life well, but amongst these here rocks lies a ticking bomb.” He took a few cautious paces forward towards them, the shadow of the alley walls covering his appearance. “And if I have to stay here and make sure you two don’t run off, I’ll risk my life to make sure you don’t get in the way of me boss.”

James grew a smirk, glancing at Jeremy before talking nonchalantly to the old man. “Well, considering we’re going to die in however many seconds, it would only seem fair that you tell us who your boss is. Not like we could tell anyone.”

“And risk the scenario that you two are wearing a wire? Nonsense.” A Rolex watch was revealed from under the sleeve of his sports coat as he checked the time, “It seems to me you’ve got a good two minutes before we all blast to bits.” The man smiled, a false tooth and a few crooked, and extended his other arm up to point a revolver in the direction of James’ head. “So answer me this, boys. Would you like to die when you know it’s coming, or by surprise?”

There was a moment of silence as Jeremy swallowed down his fear. This wasn’t the time for James to start acting like a smart-ass as usual. It seemed that every single time the two were at the edge of death, he decided to say the wrong thing and all hell would break loose.

The man grew impatient, sliding his foot against the ground to extend his pose as he gestured his gun towards James. “I haven’t got all day, decide. Otherwise it won’t be a choice anymore, you’ll just blow up.” A malevolent snicker edged through his lips and he smiled again, more unpleasant than before.

The silence pierced among the alley again, no footsteps, no words. Jeremy’s ears were desperate for something to hear, so focused. He seemed to hear a soft tick come from the wall beside him, another coming every few seconds. Although the man could be an asset to the two of them, the only right way to survive this was to get to the bomb itself without destroying it. He reached back to his pocked cautiously so the man wouldn’t noticed, pointing it at the wall in the area of the ticking.

Out of surprise however, the ticking grew louder, as if the bomb was moving. Somehow he knew it wasn’t, but how strange was it that the ticking was growing into loud beeps. When Jeremy looked around, none of the two seemed to notice. After the fifth beep, James turned to him and waved with a smirk still on his face.

      That’s when Jeremy woke up.
