Today is my first day as a high school junior. During the summer everyone told me that their most stressful year of high school was their junior year. I'm hoping that for me it isn't as stressful, but honestly, I doubt that it won't be stressful. I don't want to get out of bed, but my sister, Karla, keeps yelling at me to get up because she doesn't want to be late. It's her first day as a freshman and she's super excited that she's finally in high school. I remember being just as thrilled as she is when it was my first day as a freshman, but I was only excited the first day because the next day I was already done with it.
I finally got out of bed and started to change. I put on my new pair of black jeans, a white Nike shirt that says "The Beast Never Stops", and a pair of white Jordans. I went downstairs and got a granola bar because I'm kind of hungry and I don't have time to go to Taco Bell to buy something. I was going to go upstairs to tell Karla that we have to go, but I was held back because I saw my dad sleeping on the couch. My dad's about 6'2 and has green eyes like me, and has a full on beard. That man hasn't shaved since like the Ice Age Era. I got kind of scared when I saw him because I don't usually see him in the mornings. Or like ever. He's always with his friends drinking and he either comes home completely drunk or never shows up.
He looks like a mess, his hair is really long and he reeks with the smell of alcohol. I honestly can't even remember the last time he got a haircut. He drinks at any time of the day. He's been like that ever since my mom left. I don't understand why she did that to us. I've always wondered what he had that my dad didn't. My thoughts about my mom leaving us are shut down when I hear Karla coming. "Are you ready to go?" I ask.
"Yeah I'm ready."
"K. Let's go then." I answered as I open the front door and head outside. I put my backpack in the trunk and then I help Karla with her stuff. I don't understand why her backpack is so heavy! We don't even need that many supplies for school. It's probably all of the makeup she uses. I finish putting our stuff in the trunk and start heading to school.
After about 10 minutes of driving, we finally pull into the school parking lot. "Can you open the trunk so I can get my stuff?" Karla asks.
"Yeah hold up let me turn off the car." I turn off the car and open the trunk so that Karla can get her heavy backpack that is probably full of junk that she doesn't need. "Do you need me to go with you to get your schedule?" I ask.
"No Aiden I can do it by myself! I don't need you to take care of me!" she snapped.
"I was just asking. I didn't want you getting lost, but ok don't come crying to me when you need my help." I respond.
"Don't worry. I won't need it." she says as she walks away and starts heading to her friends from her old school. That girl is moody all of the time. I was just trying to help her and be a good big brother. She annoys me, but I'd rather not waste my energy fighting with her. I have more important things to do.
I start making my way into the school building, but I'm held back by Luke and his squad of jocks. "Are you coming to the party tonight Aiden? The first party of the year man." Luke asked with a smirk on his face.
"Why do you even bother to ask him, Luke? We all know he's stuck working all day because his alcoholic daddy can't even afford to stand up by himself." Jake says and every single guy starts laughing. I can't help but feel furious at the things they say about my dad every day. They don't know what he's been through. They don't know what I've been through. I decide to just walk away from them the moment they all start laughing because I know that they'll keep saying rude comments and I won't be able to control myself.
I walk into my first period and it actually goes by really quick. Just like the rest of the day. Every single class basically consisted of rules and syllabuses and more rules. The last bell of the day rings and finally the first day is over. I grab my backpack and start walking outside to the parking lot to find Karla. I find her sitting under a tree with all of her friends. "Karla let's go." I tell her. She rolls her eyes at me, but gets up and says bye to all of her friends. We both walk to the car and get in. "How was your first day?" I ask her.
