"Death is inevitable"
Everyone has heard this phrase.

Every living being dies one day. But nobody really thinks about it because if we lived in the fear of our inevitable death would we really be living. This was Amber's philosophy about living her life.

Amber didn't think about anything besides her present. She didn't care about her past for there was nothing worth remembering. Her future, well she took one day at a time for she knew what happens when you overload yourself with worries.

And this present day was her first day of high school. The only thing exciting for Amber was finally being able to move out of her Grandma's home and into a dormitory near her school. But that too had a downside i.e. a roommate.

As the elevator began to go up to the 7th floor, Amber zoned out yet again lost in the music in her ears. The elevator kept going up and then stopped.

"This is the last floor." whispered a voice.

Amber slowly came back to her senses and opened her eyes, "Huh?" she whispered as she looked at the bright red number on the top of the elevator doors that displayed - 15.

"Are you going to get off here?" she heard the voice again. This time she turned over to see who it was. A young guy stood next to her with confused eyes. He went to open his mouth again but stopped midway and shrugged his shoulders and stepped out of the elevator and the doors shut behind him.

Amber pressed 7 again a bit irritated this time. The elevator ascended and moments later Amber was in a busy hallway filled with freshmen students mostly girls moving in to the rooms and chatting away. Amber pulled out a piece of paper from her bag and read, "Room 708" she lifted her head up and began walking towards the direction of her room dragging her luggage behind her.

She finally reached Room 708 after dodging countless students and parents helping their kids move in. She knocked on the door and then opened it slightly. Amber peeked in before completely entering in the room.

A girl with pink hair greeted Amber as she walked in. She had wavy hair and deep plum colored eyes. Her smile was a wider than Amber's entire emotion range. She wore a green shirt and a music note earring on her right ear.

"Hi! I'm Marian" the girl said as she extended her hand towards Amber. Amber just raised her hand and said Hi with a meek smile.

Marian awkwardly drew her hand back. But back with a smile she moved towards her suitcases and asked, "Which bed and shelf do you prefer?"

Amber looked up and pointed her finger towards the left bed closer to the glass sliding door that opened to a small balcony.

"Looks like you are not much of a talker." Marian mumbled to herself.

Amber walked over to her bed and sat down and stared outside the glass doors. The sky was light up with sparse clouds. The window in Amber's room looked down at the busy Academy Avenue. Bicycles, pedestrians, teachers, students all were plying up and down the street. At a distance, the cityscape was defined by tall, high rising, fine buildings and big shopping centers with trains coming in and out of the city every minute.

Amber unpacked her luggage and arranged her shelf. Marian did the same. She came in and out of the room several times while talking with their next door neighbors. The two girls communicated mostly in hand signs. Amber was okay with it but this made Marian very uneasy.

It was almost 4 pm and the sun was setting. The city was shining bright with lights and the Avenue grew even busier.  There was a rush of customers at the restaurants and shops. Amber laid in her bed finally after what seemed like a really long day. She shut her eyes. All she wanted to was fall asleep.
