Hinata smiled as he handed over the one hundred dollars he had saved up from work. The girl in front of him handed him the phone that was promised and nodded her head. Hinata nodded back and put the phone in his pocket. He looked around the corner of the alley. The streets were empty probably due to the fact that it was one in the morning. He ducked out of the alley and made his way down the street with both hands in his pocket, one of them clutching his new phone. Finally, he thought, I finally have one.
He made it to the home he was staying in which was only a block away. He climbed up the stairs and quietly tip toed to his room door. He unlocked it and enter his room. He flinched when the door clicked behind him and shook his head looking around nervously.
"Stop, calm down." He said to himself and took a deep breathe. He reached back into his pocket and pulled out his new phone. His new phone. He had one now. It was all his. In Japan's modern society, having a phone was everything. Everyone had one. There was even a law saying that if you didn't have one you would be fined.
Hinata had gone abroad in his first year of high school. He wasn't sure when all these changes had happened, but when he got back everything had been so different. He didn't have a phone and had to borrow his neighbors everyday just to get on the train to go to work. The house he stayed in had many rooms that other people rented. The land lady was so kind and had agreed to let him rent out a room even though he didn't have a phone. He was so grateful to everyone in this building that had helped him start up again after returning.
One of his room mates actually had introduced him to the girl he got the phone from. She was apparently leaving the country to get married. Getting a phone that way didn't seem illegal, but the exchange sure made it feel that way.
Hinata sighed and shrugged his coat off. He made his way across the small room to his futon and sat down with his legs crossed. He turned on the phone and the screen lit up.
'Hello' the screen read and Hinata tapped the screen. It opened up and he smiled when he saw all the icons. He went in and changed the name, age and other information he had to put on the phone before starting to explore the apps with a smile on his face.
