"Good morning everyone!" A bright cheerful voice rung out loud in the kitchen halls.

"Why is he so bright early in the morning?" Porter groaned, bringing up the box of vegetables. "Does that guy not have energy to save for something else?"

"No need to be Mr. Negative early in the morning Porter," Javier remarked.

"You can't be so happy when all you're going to do is wash dishes." Porter rolled his eyes.

"Alright. We're opening in 30 minutes. Javier! Dont just stand there and help Porter out with chopping the onions," Dave barked.

"Yes chef."

"And Sevi! Make sure the soap wash is fully stocked. We don't want them running out during peak hours."

"Yes chef," Sevi immediately proceeded to fill the stock. After, he walked to where Porter and Javier was with hopeful eyes. "Can I help?"

"No. Get out," Porter shoved him off.

"Sevi! Make sure the bathroom's clean. Then you can start setting the tables," Dave called behind the counter.

Sevi sighed. "Yes chef."

Sevi had been a new recruit at the diner, Gustav's. A busboy. While mopping the bathroom floors, Sevi swelled with pride. This is the start of my dream to becoming a cook. First, I will be promoted to Prep then Line then...

He almost fainted at the thought of him being Cook!

It's far now, but I'll move up slowly, little by little.

12:00PM-Peak time-

"Jav! I need the fries done in two minutes!" Porter shouted.

"Three orders for buffalo chicken wrap, one deluxe cheeseburger, and one bacon cheese wrap!"

"10 pc chicken wings, one greek salad, one ham and cheese melt!"

"Sevi! Clear Table 6!" Dave called out. "Sevi!" Again when Sevi was busy from washing dishes.

"Yes boss!"

Clang!

"Fuck."

"You idiot!" Porter shouted.

"Sevi!" Dave cried out in horror as Sevi slipped the glass as it shattered on the floor.

Sevi quickly moved to clean the mess.

Soon after, a second blunder ensued.

"This isnt my order," a customer complained disgustedly.

"Im sorry ma'm! I'll switch it right away."

"Sevi! Table 4 refill!"

"Clear table 4!"

"Order out!"

Finally, peak hours were over, and the pace slowed to normal, but Sevi now crouching on the floor, was stressed beyond words.

Dave approached apologetically, offering a drink. "Sorry kid, we're still looking for someone to fill the job."

"Boss, I cant take the role of two," Sevi tried to explain feebly, accepting the can of Soda.

"I know chap, but we're short on staff. Just a little more days. I promise, we'll find someone. You'd understand, wont cha?"

"Yes sir," Sevi replied exhausted.

---

Sevi opened his dingy apartment door. His room composed of a miniature kitchen with a small table to eat and was connected to a small room to fit the basic minimum of a bed and table.

Sliding down the wall, he stared at the day's wage he earned today.

Sigh. This will do.

Then he sat on his desk and with the dim light began his usual routine: writing letters.

Dear anonymous,

How was your day? To be honest I didn't have such a good day. I accidentally burned my hand, you see. Im starting to have doubts that maybe being all positive and working hard wont get me anywhere.

In the place Im working in, they dont have enough workers so I need to help out more. I wish a new person came soon to take the job. Sorry, I didnt mean to complain so much. Dont mind the ramblings of this depressing ol' teenager.

I read your letter of being released soon. Congratulations truly. I wish you a good life.

-S.G.

Then, he carefully folded the letter and neatly wrote down the address. I wonder if this will be the last letter I'll send to him.

Putting down the pen, he stretched his aching arms and laid down on the blanket and closed his eyes.
