Chapter 32:
The day had come! A burst of thrill of anticipation and anxiety took over me, it was just a matter of minutes before it was my turn to go on stage and finally do something I had never done before. Just a touch of light pink lipstick and I was ready, my lilac dress was heavy but extremely elegant and beautiful, my hair was straightened and let out. The dressing room door slowly opened, revealing Zayn with a plump rose in his hand that he planted in the middle of my hair.
"Pride can stand a thousand trials..." Jade's voice erupted all over the building as she sang the opening song. I couldn't help but run outside to the side of the stage and peek a look at the show but Zayn pulled me away.
"Don't go so soon. What'll I do with you gone?"
"But watching stars without you..." Jade's voice continued to take over, exciting me and sending me outside to get the view of the show again. This time Zayn pulled me into a hug.
"You've still got time. Don't go..." he pleaded, making me laugh out of his cuteness.
"Give me a kiss before you go."
"No not now."
"One last one."
"No no no. Have patience."
"How do I when I don't have any."
I parted from the hug and ran to my dressing table to apply the lipstick on. Zayn followed, gluing himself to me, his arms grabbed my waist and started kissing my cheeks to my neck. The opening song was near to end.
"Good luck."
"Thanks. I am so nervous but happy."
"And why are you nervous?"
"Just..."
"Let's practice while we still have time shall we."
Zayn took my hand. "Your hand is like a holy place that my hand is unworthy to visit. If you’re offended by the touch of my hand, my two lips are standing here like blushing pilgrims, ready to make things better with a kiss."
"Good pilgrim, you don’t give your hand enough credit. By holding my hand you show polite devotion. After all, pilgrims touch the hands of statues of saints. Holding one palm against another is like a kiss." I recited the lines that were memorised in my mind by now.
"Don’t saints and pilgrims have lips too?"
"Yes, pilgrim—they have lips that they’re supposed to pray with."
"Well then, saint, let lips do what hands do. I’m praying for you to kiss me. Please grant my prayer so my faith doesn't turn to despair."
"Saints don’t move, even when they grant prayers."
"Then don’t move while I act out my prayer." Zayn kissed me. I should have known that was his motive all along.
"You are so sneaky! I should have known." I said, shaking my head, amused.
"That's not the next line."
"As if you care about the lines. You just wanted to -
Zayn kissed me again, the soft lips touched and moved in sync, slow, steady yet, so passionate. The heart beats began heating up, my muscles began to loosen as I lost myself in his warm sweet lips. If the door hadn't screamed shut then I don't know how we would have been able to pull out of this kiss.
"I should go now."
"Make me proud."
I turned the door handle down but it wouldn't open, something was stuck or jammed. I tried again but the door was locked from outside.
"What's wrong?"
"It's not opening!" I said, panicked and scared because it was my scene soon. Zayn pushed and kicked the door but the door was stubborn not to open. I dashed to my phone to call Selena or Jade up but there was a message waiting for me: You lie. You get punished. There is still time. Tell the truth or it'll get worse.
I gasped. All air was knocked out of me, I clung to Zayn for support because I felt numb, numb with fear of a stranger controlling me.
"...What is she doing? What, Juliet!", Jesy who was playing the nurse repeated the lines twice, waiting for me to come.
"Perrie your part!" Zayn said, worried.
"What is it? Who’s calling me?" Selena's voice was evidently clear. Zayn embraced me tightly, his hands cradled my head as I cried onto his shoulder, not because I lost my chance in the play which did pierce my heart but not as much as knowing that someone was playing with us...
