Years have passed and times have changed. What was once a naïve young blogger who stayed up far too late playing video games and designing websites for a little money on the side is now a young woman who still blogged and played video games and still designs websites. The difference between now and then; she’s no longer naïve. And she has gained a sense of self-control and responsibility; the definition of an adult.

“Hey guys! Look, its little Domino again! I think he wants to do some tricks for us… Don’t cha, boy? Roll over!”

Maturity and grace have finally found Megan Whittaker. And to be honest, she needed it. She was a bratty and rebellious teenager, but what else do you expect from a girl who was sick of being a child prodigy and having so many expectations? “Play the piano, play the guitar, learn computer things, do your homework, be a nice little girl!” She’d had enough. After 15 years of just blindly doing what her parents, teachers and society wanted her to do, she became aware. She was adopted into a cute little family of uppity white folk who had enough money to live comfortably and traditional morals that she just couldn’t wrap her head around. Her adoptive father was a doctor while her adoptive mother was a lawyer. Nice pair, aren’t they? They had three biological children; the eldest being the twin boys, Dante and Dylan, they were 7 years older than Megan. Then there was Mikayla, who was a year younger than Megan. Patrice, Megan’s mother, soon found out she was pregnant with Mikayla right after the adoption. It was hilarious, actually. Nobody saw it coming and there was no way that Patrice could just… give Megan back.

“Hey guys, Megan here! I, uh- I know I usually post videos of my dog, Domino, being cute; but I really think recording the transformation of my new apartment will be even more amazing! At least for me, that is. Plus, I keep seeing comments about how you guys want more of me, soo… Here you go!! Aren’t I just cute? -Yeah, thought not. Oh well! Let the work begin! Where’s the sledgehammer?”

Now, you might be wondering, why would this family adopt a baby in the first place? Well, Patrice and her husband Scott were led to believe that Patrice was less fertile than the average woman. But, alas; she wanted more babies so she figured ‘why not adopt?’ and then that’s how Megan Whittaker was born. And then a few months later she found out she was pregnant. Isn’t it just hilarious?

“Ta-da! Look at this place! It’s amazing! Oh my god, look! The bed is up there in its own little loft! Oh my goooosh! Uncle Eddy did an amazing job! Wow!”

Jae-Hwa Lee, or rather, Lee Jae-Hwa, was born on April 2nd, 1990. Megan Whittaker, however, was born on April 12th, 1990. But, seeing as it would be very odd, they chose to keep her original birthdate on her birth certificate. Megan currently knows nothing of her original birth parents except for the fact that they lived in Japan when she was born. She’s a Korean baby though, so it doesn’t make much sense to her. She’s never put too much thought into who her birth parents were or why they gave her up for adoption, but she just figured that they just didn’t have the time, finance or responsibility to raise a baby. She’s open to finding out more about her birth family though as she finds herself wanting to know more about her heritage and whatnot. Back in 2006, when she first started watching Japanese anime, she became fascinated with her Asian roots as well as Anime in general and took up learning Japanese. Yes, she is Korean, but she figured why not learn Japanese as Korean was a little more difficult; plus, the anime she watched was Japanese, so it was easy to pick up. By 2009, she was fluent in Japanese. But then K-pop and Korean culture made a big impact on pop culture in 2012… She regrets not learning Korean before, but has begun learning that as well.

“So, I’ve had some people commenting about my face. Like, my make-up and that stuff. Well, here’s a tutorial for you. I don’t exactly cake it on like other girls, but I definitely enjoy my foundation. It makes me cuter, no?”

Megan was a happy child who had a fondness for the arts. Whether it be painting, drawing, writing or music playing; it was obvious the girl had a gift. But then she was introduced to video games, courtesy of her elder brother Dylan; he was a video games junkie. Anyways, she was hooked. Nintendo 64, Sega, Playstation, Xbox… What can she say? The kids in the Whittaker household were spoiled rotten. But then, at the ripe age of 14, her video game platforms were taken away. They weren’t hers, really. They belonged to Dante and Dylan. Gaming wasn’t considered ladylike in the household so she never got her own. After Dylan and Dante moved out to go to college, they took their games with them. It hurt Megan’s heart to see them go but the hurt was soon replaced with copious amounts of joy when mother dearest came home one day with a desktop computer with Megan’s name on it!

“You guys don’t exactly know about my secret love for video games, do you? I keep seeing all of these Youtubers play video games. Well, I just got myself a new game coincidentally! How about we play it? In reality, when playing games, I tend to commentate on stuff anyways so why not do it for views? Hah. I joke.”

Megan’s first Youtube video was uploaded on May 24th, 2009. Her channel started off with cute video uploads of her small black and white Papillon, Domino. It is because of her dog Domino that her channel is named DominoDuh.  After a while, Megan began making beauty tutorials, mostly costume make up and the like; she did these videos around the holidays. In April 2011 she started making video game ‘Lets Play’s. On October 13, 2011, Megan hit her first million subscribers and it was uphill from there. In August of 2012, she went viral with a dance video; she was really into Vocaloid at the time and decided to make a video of herself dancing to one of the songs. She went viral again in March 2013 with a skit video “a day in the life of a horror movie ghost” which was a comedic approach toward the whole ‘family moves into a haunted house’ situation. After she went viral the second time, her subscriber count skyrocketed and she became an internet icon. At least, as much an internet icon as a gaming/beauty/advice channel could be. By June of 2013, she had 4.5 million subscribers and just over 1 billion views. She also averaged $30K a month! It was insane how far she’d come!

Megan was standing in the middle of a park, dressed in an odd little get up with cute little pink heels. For the online world, she looked adorable. For the real world? She looked like some Asian girl fresh out of a loony bin. Anyways; she was standing in a park in front of a tripod that held her camera. She waved to the camera before leaning down to press ‘PLAY’ on her boom box. Yes, I did say boom box.

To this day, she still continues to make Let’s Play’s and comedy skit videos. The internet consumes her life. She doesn’t want it to consume her life either, but it just ends up that way. She’s tried taking steps back by trying to meet people and all; she even went to college for a while. It just never worked out in her favor. She’s lonely, living in an apartment all by herself in such a big city.

Could a fellow Let's Player teach her how to live?
