Dorian could hardly believe it himself.

After a horrible encounter with Janny's ex, the truth came out.

She was pregnant.

"Aramina, my dear, you're sure she's pregnant?" Dorian asked, disbelief in his voice as he looked at the young spirit girl.

Aramina frowned and nodded; "Yes, she's pregnant."

"I can't believe it..." Brynjolf mumbled, running a hand through his hair.

Janny gave Dorian a look that spoke clearly to him. She felt guilty, guilty that the kid didn't belong to Brynjolf.

"Brynjolf, I'm so sorry." Janny whispered.

"I... I'll be back." Brynjolf stood up, pecked Janny's forehead, and went out.

Now it was Janny's time to start sobbing. Dorian quickly put his arms around her and sighed.

"Shhh, shh..." "He's mad at me. Can't you tell?" "Well, that's obvious my dear. But you shouldn't worry... He'll come around eventually."

---

The first three months were horrendous.

Brynjolf had only left for the night, but he had become distant. As a result, Janny became even more distraught.

Dorian had stopped counting the nights that Janny came to his room, with red puffy eyes, asking if she could stay with him. It happened so frequently that she didn't have to ask anymore.

If that wasn't enough, Dorian had taken to keeping a bucket next to Janny's side of his bed, just in case her sickness got to her (the first time it happened, she got it all over his silk sheets).

Aside from her frequent vomiting, Dorian found himself bringing all kinds of strange foods to his best friend... Apparently the child had a taste for Orlesian food, much to everyone's dismay.

Solas, Cole, and Aramina had teamed up on keeping track of the child's growth. According to Cole, it was a boy, and had magic.

---

The last month of her pregnancy proved brutal; not in a bloody sort of way, though.

Janny was trying to decide who she wanted the godparents to be, or at least it seemed that way to everyone.

One night, before they both fell asleep, Janny had spoken up.

"Dorian? You still awake?" She asked quietly.

"I am. What's on your mind?" Dorian was still sitting against the headboard, while Janny was laying flat on her back with a hand on her protruding belly.

"I... You keep joking about how you're going to teach him everything you know about magic." Janny started, letting out a light-hearted laugh. "I... I want you to be the godfather."

Immediately Dorian went wide eyed. "Me? You... You want...? My dear, surely you'd want someone else, like Jayden or Gavin." He said, laughing a bit weakly.

"Dorian, you're my best friend. I... I don't want anyone else to be the godfather." Janny finally sat up and put her free hand on Dorian's shoulder. "You've been there for me this whole time. I... I want you to at least be in Jamie's life."

"Of all the names in the world, you picked Jamie?" Dorian smiled a bit at Janny's choice. He knew the reasoning behind her choice of naming her son; it seemed fitting.

"Oh shut it you. Well, I better get some rest. Goodnight Dorian."

With that, Janny had curled up next to Dorian and promptly fell asleep.

Dorian chuckled a bit and put his free arm around his friend, almost in a brotherly way. (He'd learned Michael would do this when she was younger and had a nightmare.)

"Goodnight Janny... And goodnight Jamie."

---

One bright day, while Dorian and Janny had been working in their daily game of chess, an unexpected face revealed themselves.

"Lass?"

Immediately Janny had looked up to see Brynjolf, and Dorian gave the man a knowing smirk.

He knew what the thief was planning, and he'd wanted to be there to witness it.

"Brynjolf, I... I thought you were mad at me." Janny whispered, causing the redhead to laugh.

"After a long talk with your brother and Dorian, I realized I shouldn't blame you for what happened. Plus, I've always wanted a family of my own. And... I can have that with you."

"What are you saying?" Janny looked over at Dorian who was still smirking.

"I think you need to be clearer, Brynjolf." Dorian stated, and Janny had looked back at Brynjolf only to cover her mouth.

Brynjolf had gotten down on one knee, and he took Janny's hand in his.

"Lass, what I'm trying to say is... Will you marry me?" Brynjolf asked quietly.

Silence filled the area for a few moments, before Janny smiled widely and nodded. "Yes... Yes of course I'll marry you!"

Dorian chuckled as he watched the newly reconciled couple hug it out, before Brynjolf kissed Janny.

In his mind, he was happy that his best friend got the happiness she deserved.

The happiness would soon become greater that night...

When they all finally got to meet the bundle of joy.

Jamie Black-Septim.
