The love of my life leaned in carressing my cheek and looking deeply into my eyes. My heart was pounding against my rib cage and my breath hitched. I felt the weight of.....someone jumping on me?
"Nooooooooooooooooooo..." I moaned into my pillow. Not wanting to let my eyes open to the bright sun. Basically I still want sleep to take me again.
"Yessssss! Nicky, It's the first day of school! You have to have an amazing outfit. I came over to help you." My best friend Ashley was currently sitting on me and trying to coax me out of bed.
"By JUMPING on me?!" I open my eyes and find her big blue eyes staring at me with a big smile plastered on her face.
"Yes. I find it's the only effective way to wake you."
"You could've at least tried to shake me or be a little less...I don't know....VIOLENT?!" I mumble loudly.
"Look, I know your not so nice in the morning..."
"Well, when people jump on me, I tend not to be the nicest person, Ash."
" Yeah, yeah I get it, sassypants. Anyways I brought you coffee." I jump up and she falls onto the floor. Call me a white girl but I live for Starbucks in the morning. I will fight for it.
"OW! Thank you very much..." She gets up rubbing her head, messing up her brown curls.
"You totally deserved it." I say as I get up and walk towards the coffee. I take a sip of my Caramel Cappachino and smile. I feel the buzz of renewed energy spread through me. Coffee is my savior in the morning.
"Okay. Now I'm better. What do you want?" I turn and look at her. She's wearing a grey long sleeved shirt, dark blue skinny jeans, tall brown boots and a gold cross necklace . Her brown hair is loosely curled.
"I told you. I want to pick your outfit. And do your makeup." I groan. She is the ultimate fashionista. Every trend and new line she knows about and has already ran to the mall to buy it. She loves trying to make me look pretty. But with my long brown hair and big brown eyes I think look pretty average, definitely not outstanding. I would never catch a guys attention no matter how hard I tried. And I never tried. She never seemed to understand that.
She looks at me with big sky blue puppy dog eyes. "Okay, Fine! But don't go too far. Just simple, okay?"
She pouts a little but then nods. As she goes through my drab closet I walk into the bathroom. I stare at myself in the mirror. I stare at my brown eyes, small nose, faint freckles and pink lips. I was average. Nothing really to look at. At school I was definitely considered undesirable.
The truth is? I dreaded school. I was the class nerd. I was the good girl. I was pushed around, forced to do people's homework and just called names. The list could go on for what they do to me. The biggest bully? Austin Jenner. He made my life hell. Ever since I had walked into school on the first day and rubbed him the wrong way. Ever since the incident.
Everyday I walked into this bathroom, prepared myself for school, I put on that fake smile and tried to get through the day. He makes it hard. I hated his guts and I will never be even civil to him again after what he did to me my first year in high school, pinning a big red target on my back ever since. I make that promise to myself, knowing it would be easy to keep it.
I walk out after I was done and I see Ash's sneaky smile and she pulls out a pair of black skinny jeans, a long sleeved grey heart sweater and grey vans. Compared to her usual combinations for me, I actually liked it.
"I love it. Thanks, Ash." I know she can hear the dread in my voice. She immediately is by my side putting he arm around my shoulders.
"Hey, you gonna be okay alright? You go in. Hold your head up high. And just spread you wings. Ignore anybody who comes in your way. Punch them in the face! I don't care. You are an amazing person, never forget that. I love you!"
I lean over and hug her trying not to cry.
"Don't you dare cry and ruin your make up. We can get through today. Then we will get through tomorrow. Always together okay?" I nod and wait while she pulls my long hair in a side fishtail braid and re applies my make up due to the few tears I shed. I had to say no to sparkly eye shadow, she is going through a sparkle phase and it's starting to scare me a little.
"I think you are ready. Thanks to me you look gorgeous." She turns me around so I can look in the mirror. God, this girl works wonders with my average face. She always does.
"I love it Ash, Thanks. Your the best."
"I know!" She lets out a little giggle and walks out the room telling me we need to go. I laugh quietly to myself knowing my best friend is a weirdo. I still love her though. She's always been there for me. It's nice to have one person to lean on. I don't really have anyone else. I grab my book bag, yell a quick bye to my mom in her office and run to Ash's red DODGE truck. Maybe today might be a good day. For once. One could only hope.
