The Barry Johnson Walter Series Book One: The Beginning

Chapter 3: School Supplies

Please bear with me, these first few chapters are starting out slow and boring but they get better, or at least I think they do. Please leave any kind of critism that you have, I want to know what everyone who reads my story thinks. And nnow for the next chapter, hope you like it.

Chapter 3: School Supplies

Barry came out of a fireplace in a shop in Barkley Way. He was shortly followed by all the Walter's. As soon as Mr. Walter came out of the fireplace he said he had to go get something and left to go get it.

“Well while your father goes and runs his errand, why don’t we head over to Allen's Wand Shop?” Mrs. Walter said.

“Yes!” Barry exclaimed excitedly. “I'll need it when we start at Zarcurus.”

Zarcurus was the Wizardry school for England. It was where you would begin your study of magic at the age of 11. And for the next seven years they will learn all they need to about magic and everything magic related.

“Speaking of Zarcurus when should we be getting our letters and supplies list?” Ginny asked. Ginny didn't seem to say much when she was around Barry and Alec.

“When your father and I were going to Zarcurus we usually got them on the twenty-fifth of August, one week before the new term would start,” Mrs. Walter said.

“So that would be about three weeks from now?” Alec asked.

“That is right dear,” Mrs. Walter said. “But I already have the list, so we can get these things right after we get Barry's wand.”

“We'll be back,” Sam and Tim said, rushing off before their mother could stop them.

Mrs. Walter then led the way to Allen's Wand Shop. Along the way Barry couldn’t help but notice all the people that stared and pointed at him.

“What's their bloody problem?” Alec asked as the four of them walked into Allen's Wand Shop.

“I dunno,” Barry said. “It seems to happen a lot when I go out in public.”

“Yes well ignore all of the stares dear, it doesn't mean anything,” Mrs. Walter said as she rang the bell that sat on the front desk. Immediately a man with white hair, pale silver eyes and light skin came from the back room. Barry assumed this was Allen.

He took one look at Barry and smiled. “I knew I would be seeing you here today, Mr. Barry,” he said. “Let me fetch you a few wands to try out.”

“Thanks,” Barry said as Allen went into the back room and came out with a few, long, boxes the size of a wand.

Allen took out a first wand and handed it to Barry. “Here give this a wave,” he said. Barry did as he was told and game the wand a wave. A soon as it moved a vase sitting on the front desk exploded and sent a shard flying towards Alec, who ducked in time.

“Definitely not the wand,” Allen said as he took the one from Barry and handed him another one.

“You think,” Alec said as he looked at the shard of the case that was now stuck in the wall directly behind his head. Ginny laughed to herself ad Alec turned to her and rolled his eyes as he murmured to himself, “Girls.”

After a few more wands Barry ad finally found his wand. When he game it a wave, water sprouted out of the tip and danced around him. By that time Mr. Walter had returned and paid for the wand and they all left the shop.

They then made their way around to all of the shops that had all the school supplies that they would need for Barry, Alec and Ginny's first year of Zarcurus and Sam and Tim's school stuff as well.

By the time they were done they all had one brass set of scales, one telescope, a set of crystal phials and a cauldron. Then they each had eight books, The Standard Book of spells Level one, The Dark Forces: A guide to Self-Protection, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Magical Drafts and Potions, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi , A Beginner's guide to Transfiguration, A History of Magic, and Magical Theory.

Then there was the school uniforms which for the boys was a plain white buttoned shirt, a house tie that came in red and gold, green and silver, yellow and black, and blue and bronze. Then there was the grey knitted v-neck jumper with a house-coloured neckline, grey trousers, plain back shoes, grey socks, and an open black buttoned robe.

Now Barry and his friends had everything that they would need for their first year they needed to find Sam and Tim and they could go home. It had taken them hours to get everything on the school supplies list. And so Barry Alec, Ginny, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter set out to find Sam and Tim after Mrs. Walter had magically sent of the school supplies home.
