I walked into math class determined to get some answers. Jennifer and Michelle knew something was on my mind but I thought that involving them would only cause more problems. Plus, I didn’t really know what was going on myself. Of course all this would wait until after class.

I continued to look at the clock and huffed in irritation when only a few minutes had passed. We were suppose to be doing work but all I could focus on was the frantic look in the original Mr. Jacobs eyes.

All night the question had plagued me, ‘Why did he ask me to forget that he was there?’

Even my mom, who wasn’t very observant when it came to her family, knew that something was wrong. I told her it was just boy problems.

When the bell finally did ring I pretended to drop a few things. My friends tried to help but I told them not to wait up. Jennifer looked a bit skeptical but agreed anyway. The rest followed.

Once the room was cleared I walked over to Adrian who had been avoiding me all day. He hadn’t even glanced in my direction when calling roll. Maybe it wasn’t obvious to anyone else but I could tell there was a tension between us. He hated me and all I wanted were answers. Now was my chance.

“Mr. Jacobs?”

He looked up and frowned once his eyes fell on me. “What do you want?”

“I need to talk to you about something.”

“It better be math related.”

I tightened my fists and took a step forward. There was no way he was getting under my skin today.

“I saw the old Mr. Jacobs at the grocery store yesterday. He looked upset and kept telling me to pretend like I hadn’t seen him. Do you happen to know anything about that?”

“What are you talking about? Mr. Jacobs should’ve left town,” he said, narrowing his eyes.

“Well he wasn’t.”

Adrian closed the distance between us and held on to both of my arm. “I’ll say this one more time,” he spoke, his breath hot on my already flushed skin. “Don’t go to New York, stop talking to me on a personal level, and listen to what Mr. Jacobs said.”

I yanked myself from his grasp and took a step back. “That’s not fair. You can’t keep all these secrets from me. I’m not asking to be a part of your business but I do deserve some answers.”

He let out a barking laugh and only stopped when I glared at him. This conversation really was going no where. A few students started to trickle in but didn’t pay us much attention. Just a few glances in our direction and that was it.

“Listen here kid. I owe you nothing. Forget about me and everything will be fine. You won’t see me next year and that’s the best thing that can happen to you. It’s not even smart to be friends with me.”

“Hello?” sang an annoying voice.

Both of our heads snapped in the direction of the door as Ms. Williams walked in. She was wearing a small black skirt with a grey, silky top. There was a dress code in our school and I was certain that all her outfits pushed the limits everyday.

“Am I interrupting something?” she asked, looking back and forth between the two of us.

“Ms. Atkins was having trouble with her homework so I gave her a few extra problems. Isn’t that right?”

“Yes sir,” I said, trying my best not sound angry. “See you tomorrow.”

He nodded and focused his attention on Ms. Williams who was now leaning across his desk. Someone how one of the buttons on her shirt had become undone and was revealing the pair of fake boobs she had paid for. I gagged and quickly left the room before she showed off anymore of her body.
