PART THREE – TWENTY-FOUR

The house that the Vayre company let them live in while James and Piper were designing a house for them was tidy. It was set in a corner of Bugbrooke with a field set behind it. The driveway let there be enough space for two cars to be parked on with ease. The front door had a little roof of it's own, saving visitors from getting soaked by the rain while they waited. The windows hid the inside with blinds. But overall, Vivian had to agree with Piper. It was definitely nicer than some of the places they had to live in over the past few years. But still, after seeing some of the Vayre buildings, Vivian thought that it might have been a little grander.

"They said that it's a four bedroom," Piper told them. Hand on the door of the car. A car they really needed to update. As soon as they got to fifty miles per hour, the whole car shook so hard Vivian was actually afraid that it would shake itself to pieces.

"It's a big house," James agreed. "I was actually expecting something smaller."

Vivian leant between the two front seats that had a couple of tears each of age. "You are remembering that the company your about to work for is Vayre, right? You know, one of the biggest companies in Europe."

James smiled, turning to look at Vivian. "Yes, hunny, I know." James glanced in the back where Vivian knew Kave sat, looking at his new territory. "Come on, let's get Kave out."

With a sigh, the three climbed out and Vivian let Kave out the back. "Welcome to your new home, Kave."

Kave looked up at her and sat, waiting. Honestly, Vivian didn't know what she'd do without Kave sometimes. Man's best friend a dog was. Even if said dog was a pitch black Great Dane that was too bulky to be one, and one who had appeared out of nowhere while she'd been walking by the lake local to where they'd been living at the time.

Hearing the front door open, Vivian turned to see Piper looking into the hallway. She really should call Piper 'mum', and James 'dad' since they were her adoptive parents, but she looked nothing like them. Piper's hair was a wave of golden blonde locks that fell just below her shoulders, her eyes a beautiful blue. James was a lot like her, curly beach blonde hair, cut short and sea green eyes. And her? Black hair that was as black as Kave's fur and brown eyes with black ink on her face, Vivian was glad that she wasn't ghostly pale, if she had been, would have called herself a walking nightmare. Vivian shook her head, yeah, the only way she was like them was... well, she wasn't. Vivian had lost count with how many times people had asked how they were related.

"Any spiders?" James joked, making Piper turn to mock glare at him from where she was peering into the house. Then she came to the back of the car to help with grabbing bags.

Grabbing several bags herself, Vivian then followed James and Piper through the magnolia coloured hallway into what appeared to be the lounge. Warm reds decorated the walls, and the cushions on the black leather sofas were a mix of red and oranges. There was already a large television hung on the wall with a range of consoles beneath it.

"I want to see the kitchen," Piper said in awe as she too stared at the money that was clearly in the house. And they'd only seen the living room.

"How big is that T.V.?" James asked. "I've only ever seen a television this size in a shop."

Vivian smiled at the last. It wasn't that they didn't want a television, it was more because of all the moving around they did. It wouldn't have been easy to move the entire interior of a house every few months. But it worked for them, so Vivian didn't mind either. But still, this television was... yep, it was longer than the stretch of her arms. Wow.

After they got the rest of the bags in, they, with Kave following behind, checked out the rest of the house. Piper was a secret chef, and was ecstatic to see that everything was modern, and brand new by the looks of things in the kitchen.
