The trip had begun with a rocky start but after they unstuck the truck from the mud things smoothed themselves out. While (Y/N) set up the tent and put the camp in order Paul left to find the perfect spot. They spent that night eating hotdogs and making up scary stories. The next day they were up before the sun and Paul who rarely broke his stoic character excitedly showed her what he had done. The area was set up so that they looked out from a short hill to a clearing with tall grasses an ideal place to spot deer and it was perfectly camouflaged. They lay down and she held the gun expertly. Even though she was a veteran of the red army and wouldn't miss Paul lay next to her putting his hands over hers. They stayed that way for hours waiting. Finally about midday a large buck stepped cautiously out of the trees. He was facing them and swiveled his head and ears about listening for even the tiniest hint of danger. (Y/N) adjusted the scope when she was satisfied she placed her finger over the trigger. Not a second later the sound of a gun firing rang through the forest and in the same moment the buck fell lifeless before it touched the forest floor. Yes! (Y/N) shouted dashing toward her first nonhuman kill. She was followed closely by Paul. They inspected the deer and found that her shot had gone straight threw its heart. Good job. You say that like I do any other kind of job. Wasting no time they removed its internal organs. Paul picked up the gun It's your kill you carry it. She slung the animal over her shoulders and they walked back enjoying the scenery they hadn't before. Once back at camp Paul showed her how to butcher it and properly store the meat and fur. They enjoyed the venison by a neatly contained fire and busted open the s'mores in honor of her first and successful hunting trip. As they got comfortable in their sleeping bag for two (Y/N) kissed Paul goodnight and said If the rest of this trip goes as well we'll definitely have to do this more often. The next two days they spent exploring the surrounding area and hunting. On the day they left they took their time packing up and enjoyed a long breakfast. Once in the truck she sang along to the radio while Paul tapped the tune into the steering wheel and hummed.
