Zachary's heart was pounding against his chest. It felt as if it was going to burst. His head was aching. He had to tell her he loved her. Peyton- the love of his life, his happiness, his everything. The only one who could lift him up when he was at his worst. He loved her. What neither of them knew was that the both of them had been harboring feelings for each other without the other knowing.
Quite suddenly, the door to the dim lit classroom was flung open. Zachary stood still in his tracks. Peyton walked in, her long blonde hair sweeping against her shoulders. She smiled the smile that he loved best. "Hi," she said nervously. "I didn't know you were in here. I thought it was empty."
"No, it's okay. You can stay," Zachary said as he returned the smile. He closed the door softly behind her. "I wanted to tell you something anyway. I've been thinking about it for days to end, and I think I should tell you today."
"What is it? It's not this often you sound this serious," Peyton giggled, trying to liften up the mood. The dimly lit room had brought a feeling of melancholy to the both of them, and Zachary looked especially pensive.
"My parents are splitting up; I'll be following my mom, to Oregon. And I'll never ever come back again."
Peyton was dumbfounded. She gaped at Zachary. "Is this some kind of joke?" was all she managed to say.
"It's not. I'll be leaving in two days time. I wish this wasn't happening too. But it is. And I've got to do what my mom wants me to do. I've been wanting to tell you for the past two weeks or so, but I just couldn't build up enough courage to do so. I don't want to leave you." Zachary whispered softly and walked towards Peyton. "I'm really sorry," he whispered.
Peyton was in a state of shock. She couldn't live without him. He was her ray of sunshine, and she loved him. "Don't go. Please don't," she stuttered. A tear trickled down her cheek. Zachary wiped it off with his thumb and cradled her face. His heart ached.
"I love you. And I never want to let you go."
He said. He finally said it. All those weeks of thinking how he was ever going to tell her he loved her was worth it. Peyton's eyes opened wide and she stared at him out of her huge hazel eyes. Those three words worked like magic; in a moment her tears were dried up and she hugged him tight- hugged him as if she had no means of letting go- hugged him as if her life depended on it.
"You really do?" Peyton asked with arms wrapped around Zachary. "You really, really do?"
"I really do," Zachary cooed.
"I love you too."
