Chapter Two

“Jeez! It’s freezing!” Sammi complained as we stepped round the corner and onto the main road. We weren’t driving as we were both planning on getting wasted. I shrugged off my jacket and passed it over to her.

“I warned you” I smirked. She took it off me and gave me a grateful smile. “I’m cold now, thanks to your stupidness” I teased laughing.

She scowled at me, “Well do you want it or not?” she complained, raising her voice slightly.

“Flower, you need it more and besides I was only messing” I snickered and put my arm on her shoulder as she snuggled into my jacket and side.

When we arrived at the pub around ten minutes later, I spotted the three of them sat at our usual spot under the window. “I’ll get the drinks” I called as she started to make her way over to the guys and Ashleigh.

“You oryt Kyle?” Steve the landlord called as I strolled over and sat on the stool.

I nodded, “Yeah thanks, just been busy unpacking, you?” I asked, getting more comfortable on the wooden stool.

“Not been too bad, thanks, Amanda is a handful though. Who knew teenage girls could be such a pain” he complained, shaking his head lightly. Amanda was his daughter who had just turned sixteen. When she came in, it was only to get a bottle of WKD from the fridge or something. Steve didn’t mind, but he limited her to one or two a night, which she didn’t seem to like. It was funny seeing their little spats though.

“Dunno, haven’t dealt with it yet” I smirked. We hadn’t even had that conversation yet, but with us both working the way we do, I think kids is way down the line, thankfully, as when I carried my cousin’s new born baby, I thought I was going to drop him, I was so scared. I’d be more terrified if I had to do that to my own flesh and blood!

“Is it the usual?” he asked as he walked over to the Jack Daniel’s bottle on the wall. I nodded in confirmation and started to play with the beer mat, twiddling it through my fingers. “£4.50 please” he broke in, knocking me out of my thoughts of how I find it weird that he knows my order, even though I’ve only been here three times before.

I handed him a fiver, “Can I have a pack of mini cheddars with the spare fifty pence?” I concluded as I picked up Sammi’s JD and Coke off the bar. I placed the packet of mini cheddars in my mouth and picked up my pint of bitter. My hands were full, so what can I say?

“Where’s mine?” Sammi asked as I made my way over. I hunched my shoulders and sat down between her and Leon. “So I don’t get any?” she asked smirking.

“You can share mine if you want…?” I teased back. She shook her head grinning. God she is such a tease!

“So how you been dude?” Leon asked, patting my back roughly, making me spit half my drink onto the table, “Smooth…”

“Thanks for that” I rolled my eyes, “And it’s not been too bad” I completed.

“It’s karaoke tonight” Ashleigh squealed making me grimace. “We are so singing something Sam!” she screeched even louder, making my ear drums burst. I think Calvin was thinking the same thing as he had the same sort of face.

“Tone down the high pitch please” Calvin protested, making me laugh slightly under my breath, gaining a light punch from Sammi.

“What was that for” I faked horror, rubbing my arm jokingly.
