I guess it never occurred to him that I liked him. I make it so obvious, yet, he is so blind. Men, I will never understand how dense they can be. Even my parents can see how much I like him and they can be such airheads. They don't even know who the Kardashians are, but they noticed my feelings for him. Do I have to spell it out for him? For Pete's sake! It's driving me insane! My mind is constantly filled with images of him. His soft brown eyes that light up when talking about his passions, his goofy yet slightly uneven smile that shows itself whenever he sees me. His chiselled back and chest, the way his muscles flex when he reaches for things. Every time he lifts up his arms over his head, his v-line and his abs play peekaboo. Whenever I'm looking at him people always say I look dumbstruck or to wipe the drool from my chin and yet, he has never noticed. Then again, every girl in school looks at him that way. I just wish he would see that to me, he isn't just my best friend, but that I am head over heels in love with him. I had been since I first met him when he moved into town. That was eleven years ago, we're sixteen now. He caught my attention the day he got out of his parent's car and walked up to my five year old self to say hi with his bright smile.
As teenagers do, I have had a few boyfriends, but none of them compare to him. They never lasted. They all knew I was in love with him, I mean, I always warned them. I ensured they knew what they were getting into. I ensured they understood my heart belonged to Blake. Just like me, Blake never could last longer than three months in a relationship, all his girlfriends hated our close knit relationship and gave him ultimatums, them or me, can you guess what he would choose? I felt bad for them of course, but in all honesty I would be jumping with joy as soon as he left the room.
I've been told I'm a natural beauty. My hair was naturally platinum blonde with strawberry blonde highlights. Girls would kill to have hair like mine. About ninety percent of the blondes that attend Vergennes Heights High weren't actual blondes. They sure tried their hardest to be, but you could tell they weren't, the frayed ends and frizzing made it obvious. Can you imagine how much money they spent trying to replicate my natural colour? Anyways. Aside from every other girl in this small town, Blake and I were just meant to be. We were perfect for each other. Everytime we hung out after school we were always mistaken as a couple. Everytime we were mistaken as a couple, I tried to make it as noticeable as possible that I wanted to be an actual couple with him. I could always feel the frustration bubbling within me as soon as he says we're just super close and best of friends. How can a straight A student be so unbeknownst to my feelings for him? I just can't understand it. The reason why he hasn't gotten a girlfriend as of late is because everyone in school knows about my feelings for him. They knew he was mine.
I started to drift away with my thoughts and annoyance about Blake. I could faintly hear someone calling out my name, "LUCY. Hello! Earth to Lucy!" Selena called to me waving her hands in front of my face, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Oh... hi, you're here," I said flatly. Not at all happy about getting my train of thought interrupted.
"Yeah I am and have been for the last ten minutes. What in tarnation were you thinking about? You seemed very deep in thought," as per usual Selena just goes on without giving me a chance to answer, "I mean... wait... I know what you were thinking about or more like who you were thinking about," she wiggled her eyebrow at me, a teasing smirk on her lips. I could feel the heat rising, starting at the base of my neck and rapidly rising to my face. I hated blushing, it made me look putrid! Red was totally not my colour.
"Oh wipe that smirk from your face," I grumbled at her, "are we going to order or not? I'm starving." Leading the way to the queue with her in tow. We were at an elite cafe, the only one worth visiting. In Vergennes, we didn't have a Starbucks, our town was too small for something so franchised.
