#Chapter One#
"Yeah, of course." I said to my twin brother, Ryker, and his friend, Orion. "Ok sis, see you then." Ryker said before driving off with Orion. I waved good-bye to them and continued my walk to the bakery across from my house. Ryker and Orion had wanted to hang out tomorrow, which I totally agreed on. We never hung out much these days,
I sighed and opened the door of Sugar Street Sweets Shop. Which was ironic because the street name was actually called Sugar Street. I let out a little chuckle, which I did every time I thought about that. I looked at the menu and decided to order my usual: macaroons. They are the best things ever. A gift truly from the gods.
I walked up to the counter, inhaling the delicious smell of goodies. I opened my mouth to order but before I could, Ms. Sally interrupted me. With a wink and smile she said "The usual, I presume." I returned her smile and nodded my head. Ms. Sally was a really sweet little old lady who had been running this shop since before I was born.
People in town raved about her famous cheesecake which was honestly the best ever. She was getting old and so she told me whenever she kicked the bucket I could take over her shop. I was her favorite and most common customer. I accepted the bag of macaroons from her and reached over the counter to give her my money. That was the best part, everything thing was cheap and homemade. She always says she thinks the smiles on people's faces is enough payment.
I wished her a good day and walked back home to deliver the candies to my family. As soon as I opened the front door, Mom and Dad bolted out of their seats and asked very rapidly "DID YOU GET THEM?" They were crazier for macaroons than I was. I slowly shook my head and sighed. "Sorry, no. She was all out."
I loved playing jokes on them. Especially when it came to their precious macaroons. The looks on their faces was hilarious. "Oh." They whispered and sunk back into their seats with solemn looks on their faces. I just started laughing out loud and Dad sent me a funny look. "What's so funny, Riley?" Mom asked.
I just laughed harder and held up the bag full of sweets. They jumped out of their now vacant seats to steal the bag from my grasp. Dad stole it first and ran to a small closet, locked himself in and started eating. Mom ran after him and tried to get the bag back. I chuckled again and sat down in a chair to watch what was about to play out while eating through another bag of macaroons. My parents acted like little kids sometimes.
I just waited to see how long it would take them to notice I had another bag. Dad suddenly ran out of the closet with Mom chasing him. They ran past me and Mom stopped short then screamed "RILEY ISLA PARKER WHY DID YOU NOT TELL US THERE WAS TWO BAGS?" I smiled and shook my head. "Three." I tossed her one and soon we were all happily eating our macaroons.
Suddenly I got an incoming video call from my best friend in the whole entire world, Bryn. Also known as Ryker's girlfriend. I accepted and suddenly Bryn's icy blue eyes framed by black hair filled up the screen of my phone. "Hey gurl!" She practically shouted into the phone. "Is my bae there?" I chuckled and said "No, RYKER, is not here." She sighed and replied "Oh. Well bye now, that was the only reason I called." Then she hung up on me.
Such great friends I have. Or friend. I went to sleep that night wondering if anyone (Besides my boyfriend and family, obviously) really, truly, cared about me.
