"When did you get a body like that?" Dan drooled.
"I always had it, you were just too busy looking at other girls to notice." I snapped, clearly agitated by his presence.
The crowd that had gathered all "oooo'd" like they do in those crappy American sit-coms.
I glanced at Amber to see her glaring back and forth between Alex and Dan, as if she didn't know who to be angry at. She got up and left the pool, grabbed Alex by the ear and dragged him inside.
I could already tell there was going to be a storm.I scanned the crowd, reading people's faces to see how they were reacting to the situation. I caught Jack, Leon and Ryan all staring with narrow eyes at Dan. Jack looked utterly furious. A lot of the nerdier groups of teens were trying to hide themselves from the rugby team who were standing judging the party. Adrianna, Leona and Miley had formed a semi circle around me and knew exactly what to do in this situation.
Our friend group had a vow that if one of our ex's showed up, they would help the the girl who's ex did show up SLAY EVERYTHING. Cheesy, I know, but it was so much fun to do. The boys knew about our agreement and were preparing themselves for a show.
Miley got out of the pool and collected my silk robe from the poolside where I had left it. Adrianna and Leona then helped me down as gracefully as possible from the pizza float I was perched upon and guided me, taking an arm each, to the steps where Miley was waiting with my robe. Miley put the robe on me as a slowly slid my sunglasses on top of my head. The four of us then strutted, mean girls style, over to the group of boys. I leaned in really close to Dan and whispered in his ear.
"You're not welcome here anymore, babe." I then gave him a flirty wink before walking back to Jack. The three boys clapped as we returned to them. I gave them a bow and basked in my glory.
Seconds later Alex stumbled out of the patio doors follows by Amber who was throwing constant insults at him.
"Were you drunk?" She screams
"No, I didn't start drinking until the party started" Alex sounded sounded quite smug about his comment.
"Oh okay so you're just incredibly stupid."
"If I'm stupid then how come I'm in a higher maths set than you?" He questioned.
Amber lost her patience and slapped Alex square across the face. The whole area went silent. I was laughing. But everything else was silent.
Alex stumbled a little before composing himself and attempted to pull Ambers hair although, due to his drunken state, completely missed and ended up falling face first directly on top of Amber.
"Get off me you heffalump" she squealed from under the mass of her close friend.
"Oh shut it you goose." Alex tried, but failed at a comeback.
Both of them ended up standing facing each other like before, Amber noticed that Alex was standing right on the edge of the pool. She opened her arms to gesture a hug, leading to Alex doing the same; but instead of hugging Alex she pushed him - fully clothed - into the pool.
She then tuned focusing on Dan. She looked crazy. She started to charge full pelt at Dan who only laughed and stepped to the side, leaving his poor friend Connor to deal with the full impact of a barbaric Amber.
Alex surfaced from under the water and yelled
"EVERYBODY IN THE POOL!"There was a chorus of "yeah"s and "woop"s as everyone standing in my garden ran and jumped into the pool leaving only Jack, Amber, Connor, Dan and I standing on the patio.
I was standing my arms around Jack and his arms around me. Amber was on the floor with Connor laughing at one another. And Dan was staring or should I say glaring at Jack and I. I could feel his gaze upon my back and I hated it, it made me so uncomfortable. I felt Jack stiffen as I heard the sound of Dan's flip flops getting closer.
"I'll be okay, I'll tell you everything later." I whispered into Jack's ear and he slowly released his grip on me and went to find Leon.
"Can we go somewhere and talk?" Dan questions awkwardly, it was weird hearing him talk like this. His hands were stuffed in his pockets and he was shuffling from foot to foot.
"Sure." I replied, slightly stunned by his awkwardness.
We wandered downstairs to the basement where there were a bunch of sofas to sit on. Luckily there was no one else there. So we sat.
There was an uncomfortable silence for a couple minutes before I decided to question him on why he wanted to talk.
"So are you gonna say something or did you just drag me down here to sit in silence?" I stabbed at him.
"You've changed." He stated simply, looking up at my confused expression.
"I don't understand."
"You never used to be so outgoing and confident." He pointed out. It was true I guess, never really thought about it. Although I wasn't going to be civil to him. Not after how uncivil he was to me.
"Well it really helps that I don't have a boyfriend who comments on my imperfections."
"Yea..."
"Oh and look at other girls while he's with me."
"Oka..."
"Also who cheat..."
"Okay I get it! I was a dick." He spluttered breathlessly. "There is no excuse for that but I don't want to be a dick anymore."
I was completely taken aback by what Dan had just said and didn't know how to respond.
"I don't want to be feared. I don't want to be disliked. I don't want to be disobedient." He continued. " I want to be liked for my personality, not my looks or my sports achievements. I want people to say hello to me in the corridors, not hide behind their lockers in fear. I want to do well in school, I don't want to fail anymore classes."
"Why are you telling me this?" I asked, genuinely confused as to why me.
"Because you're everything I want to be. And I need better influences in my life. Please can you maybe give me a second chance? If not as a boyfriend maybe just a friend?" He looked desperate.
"Give me you number and I'll call you when I make up my mind."
"Don't you still have it?"
"Nope, your number was deleted before I started the breakup drinking" I winked at him.
"Haha okay then" he chuckled.
"Oh and one more thing before you leave..." I stopped him.
"Yeah?"
"Can you please tell everyone to get out of my house. I think this party is over."
He laughed "Okay then, whatever you need."
And he left.
