This is it

The church glistened brightly under the summer sunlight. I walk down the aisle in a beautiful lace white gown. The veil falls perfect down my face adorned with tiny pearls scattered in it. My grip on the multicoloured bouquet tightens when I step up to the door. The door opens and I see my man waiting for me at the end of the church smartly dressed in a tux. He looks at me passionately like I was the only girl in his life. I respond with a shy smile and advance towards him.

The church was empty. No one was invited to our wedding. We didn't want anyone to know about our marriage. It was something the we wanted to keep it towards ourselves. Firstly, we were afraid as to how our family would react. Secondly, we were crazy in love and never wanted to be apart from each other. Lastly, I was only 15 and he was 18. I moved out of my parents house soon after we dated for 2 years. They inquired me but I simply ignored their questions.

I know one would say that I'm too young to be dedicated to man for life but our bond was equivalent to the bond shared between an old couple. We knew each other for over three years. It was a love at first sight.

He immediately fell in love with me on a cold winter night. It was Christmas and he had visited the church along with his family. Ever since I was I child I participated in a lot of church work. That first night he saw me I was singing "Away In A Manger". Amidst a huge crowd on a Christmas night he was the only one I notice because he wouldn't remove his glare from me. Slowly he attended the church frequently. Wr grew from acquaintances to friends to lovers and now husband and wife.

Now we are standing inches apart facing each other. We giggle at each other like kids in the playground.

"Hi beautiful" he whispered even though we were the only ones present.

"I promise to protect you when needed. To care for you when unwell. To accompany you when alone. To be by you side through all ups and downs. I promise to never leave you as long as you are mine. I'll love you as long as you love me forever. Till death do us apart." I  vowed tightened my grip on the bouquet to hear his words.

"I too promise to do every single thing you've just mentioned. For the term love, you were the first person to make me sense the term. I just pray that you'll never let me out of this sensation and babe, forever is too short for us. I just want to be with you for eternity times infinity. No words can describe how much I love you. I vow to love and cherish you till death do us apart. Do you take me to be your husband?" He smiled goofily waiting for my response.

"I do. Do you take me to be your only wife in this life and several more generations?" I wink.

"No doubt I do. Now I may kiss my bride" he laughed and pulled me towards him. Every time he kissed me felt like the first time. I giggled as he licked his lips staring hungrily at my lips. His wet lips moistened my red matte lips. We exchanged thin gold bands with our initials engraved    In it.

He held hand clinking our fresh rings and walked till our home.

Thing remained the same after our marriage. We still loved each other dearly. He continued to play his guitar and compose songs while I attended school and the church to sing hymns. He works as a full time bartender and a part time singer. He sang in the bar every time the main singer fell ill or didn't show up. He earned enough to pay his room rent. My parents would send me monthly allowances. With that money we'd buy groceries and spend it on dates.

"Babe. I really love music. I don't want to sing in the bar. Nobody recognises my talent." he hugged me from the back as I was completing my math homework.

"Don't worry sweetheart! I acknowledge you talent. They will too. Slowly but surely" I smiled at him.

"No. I'm not talking about them" He whined "There was a poster in the bar. An audition under a Korean label."

"So" I stopped my work to face him "You wanna go Korea"

"I mean I... we could give it a try" he stepped down on his knees folding his arms on my lap.

"You know I'm not interested into music. I need to help my dad with his cosmetic business once I graduate from high school" My dad owned a cosmetic business. It wasn't a huge company. Just a small workplace with a few employee. However, being the only child the company would be inherited to me after I reach a certain age.

"Babe. What's the harm in giving it a try? It will be huge if we get into it" he eyes glistened with joy.

"I don't know... I mean. I could give it a try for you but what if I don't get in" I was reluctant about this idea. If one of us doesn't get in, it could mean the end to our relationship.

"I'll back out too. It's simple. But please give your 100%. This audition means a lot to me and I want you to be by my side" he caught my hands and our ring shone brightly under the lamp "Plus, if you don't like being an idol you can always go back to doing business"

"Alright" I smiled "Let's do it!"

"And... also one thing babe" he smiled uncomfortably "There is an application fee of $500 per person"

"What? How will we arrange such a huge amount" I got up from my chair and walked in the kitchen for no reason.

"You could ask your father" he followed me quickly.

"And tell him what?" I poured myself a glass of water.

"School project?" He sat on the counter.

"$1000 for a school project" I scoffed.

"He'll believe. No offence but your father is a gullible man"

He was right. My father sent me a $1000 the day after I asked him. We quickly filled the application form. I reluctantly handed over the money to the receptionist.

"Your audition is ahead of mine" I bit my nail. This was a habit of mine. I bit my nails every time I was nervous.

"Babe. Chill. It's alright" he cooled me.

The audition was held in a hall. We sat on a bench outside waiting for our name to be called. He was too focused to talk to me till the time his name was called.

"Babe that's me" he voice quivered. Honestly, he was more tensed that me.

"It's okay sweetheart. Do well. Don't be nervous...." he hurried following the lady into the hall.

"...We've got each other" I completed the sentence in a soft whisper.

I bite my nail as I wait eagerly for him. After a few minutes, he comes out of the hall. He seemed surprised.

"How'd it go?" I asked eagerly.

"I can't believe it!... they said I did well...and...and that I might get a chance in Korea" he exclaimed.

"That's great!" I hugged him "But what if I don't get in?"

"Don't worry babe" he lifts my chin "We can always back out"

"But this means a lot to you right" I frown.

"Not more than you"

He let those words out of his mouth so causally, unaware of the wrecking impact he had caused in my heart. He left me with a shattered heart and  a false vow.

Not only was my father a gullible man, so was his daughter.
