He strode down the icy pavements.
It was fairly dark due to it being night with only the fulvous glow of the street lights; surrounded by various sizes of houses and homes, mumbles from the wind and the silver moon hanging from the sky.
It was January, and he was walking in what he had thought to be solitude.
Apparently he was not completely alone.
Gentle sobs could be heard from just around the bend- a feminine cry wanting comfort.
He wasn't the type of guy to usually ignore somebody's sadness, even though it was late at night and the individual making the noise could be of some danger, his gut feeling said they meant no harm.
With slight hesitation, he decided to turn the corner and search for the person in the darkness. Shuffling his feet carefully, he moved through an alley full with litter and muck until: he eventually collided with the woman, huddled next to some damp, cardboard boxes.
She looked up at him with tear-stained cheeks, puffy eyes and a face of uncertainty.
"Excuse me, but you sound distressed. Could I possibly help you with anything..?" He asked, not wanting to intrude on an obvious emotional time for her, yet still wanting to help.
"I honestly don't think there's much anyone can do," she sniffed while using a sleeve to wipe away a tear in the midst of dripping down her cheek, "Being here right now.. Is something I can't help, but something I could've hidden- now I have nothing."
He was confused and studied her expression to try to understand better.
"You don't have a home?" She shook her head to the thought and he didn't expect to say what he did next: "You can stay with me."
That could have been a bad choice, however he felt an overwhelming sense of protection and couldn't really leave her out here, alone.
The woman's eyes widened, "I wouldn't normally say yes to something like this, but in this case I have to. I have no reason to be, so risks don't tantalise me anymore." She sighed, "But thank you. My name is Logan, by the way."
"I'm Simon. Nice to meet you, Logan." He extended his arm to reach for her and she pulled herself up with his help.
