The Silence

Introduction

It was a dark night, a gentle breeze blew across my face as I walked through the forest. I heard noises such as the rustling of leaves, twigs being broken under the soul of my boots and the occasional wolf howl. I felt something brush against the left side of my face, it felt gentle not rough. I stood still in the pitch black forest as the wind grew stronger, the noises got louder but my heart beat remained the same, steady and calm. If there is one thing to know about me, its that I don't scare easy. I didn't yell out for help in desperation because I knew no one could hear me, I stood my ground and waited for something to happen. I heard an unsettling cracking noise above me but I didn't look up, I just stood still and waited. I kept my mind clear and took deep breaths as the cracking noise quickly grew louder. I noticed leaves started falling one by one than two by two than little twigs started raining from above. The cracking stopped, there was a great silence that filled the forest. I somehow felt empty inside for a moment, I questioned the reasoning for my existence. The cracking abruptly started again and instead of twigs falling a large tree branch fell about a perfect inch in front of my toes. After the tree branch fell there was nothing but silence that filled the forest that night. It's almost like time was somehow frozen and all the noises I heard before like a simple rustling of the leaves weren't there, instead I heard nothing.

There are so many questions you could ask me about that night. Why was I in the forest alone? Why wasn't I scared? How did I stay so calm? How on earth did subtle winds turn into gail force winds in a matter of seconds? why didn't the tree branch hit me? I have been asked all of these questions and they all end in the same answer, I don't know.
