It was the end of the world...or so it seemed. As he approached the open doorway, his heart began to thump. He had lived to see the sun rise another day. He had fought off the nightmares from his childhood. He had survived watching his love be ripped apart in front of him. He had even witnessed his own death. But none of that mattered any more. He was alive.

He cautiously placed a foot outside of his house, completely forgetting about the previously agonising pain in his neck. As he stepped into the sunlight he was met with freedom, the smell of burning flesh, and the sight of fires appearing on his body.

Within seconds he was a pile of ash on the floor. But still it did not matter, for he didn't die last night. He survived his own personal apocalypse.

Shame he was ginger and sensitive to the sun. He wasn't turned into a vampire or anything and burnt to death in the sun because of that, oh no. He was just a very pale ginger who forgot their sun cream before stepping into the heat of the Miami sun.
