Evan

"Don't forget to clock in," my boss reminds me, "again."
"I won't, I won't," I replied. I clocked in to work at 10:00 AM then went to my position at the register of the small, yet cozy bookstore. I've worked here for about 4 months, it's nice because I like books and stuff.

Usually the same people come in all the time, they all know me and I know them. But today I saw an unfamiliar face. A girl I've never seen before walked inside the bookstore. She had faded lilac hair and wore a light blue skirt with a black t-shirt tucked in.

"Hello, can I help you find anything today?" I asked.
"Um, yeah," she paused and pulled a paper out of her bag, "do you have any copies of The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath?"
"Yeah I think we do," I said as I walked towards the Classics section of the store. I scanned the shelves with my eyes until I found it and pulled it off the shelf. "We have 2 different copies," I said, "whichever one you like better."
"Okay thank you," she replied.
"Just let me know if you need anything else," I said before walking back to the register.

The girl examined the two books for a minute and put one back on the shelf. She turned the book over to look at the back cover and placed the book back on the shelf. She meandered about the store a little bit then sat in one of the armchairs in the store.

A little while went by and I felt like I should talk to her. "So, did you move here recently?" I asked.
"Yeah," she replied with an unsure tone.
"Do you like it here?"
"Here as in this store or as in this town?" She asked.
I laughed, "the town, I meant."
"Oh yeah, it's fine," she shrugged, "this store is pretty neat though, it's kinda comfortable."

"What's your name?" I asked thinking how creepy I sounded by now.
"Amber, what's yours?"
"I'm Evan," I said, saluting her in a funny way, "nice to meet you."
She laughed, "oh the pleasure is all mine."

She looked down at her phone and stood up. "I have to go, see you around, Evan."
