"Marley, there's a phone call for you."
I took the phone from my mother and stepped out of the living room into the kitchen.
"Marley? It's your father. There's been a horrible accident..." he pauses. "Sweetheart, your brother's dead. His plane crashed."
My heart stops beating and my throat grows dry. All I can see is Noah's face looking down and smiling at me. My brother grabbing me by my waist and spinning me around till I feel sick. I feel his arms around me, hugging me. I hear his voice telling me it's all going to be okay. But it won't be.
"Marley? Are you there?" my dad says worriedly. I can hear the scratchiness in his voice. He's been crying. My mother walks into the room and throws me a questioning glance. I simply hand the phone back to her and brace myself against the counter.
"What? No, it's not possible they have the wrong flight," I hear my mother say. She continues making excuses for my brother and I just can't take it. I have to get out before I scream.
"This cannot be happening. This isn't real. Noah's okay." I tell myself all these excuses in my head but I know none of them are true. He's really gone.
