Two months later, it was the week before christmas; the staff had arranged a night out to celebrate but despite Charlie's best efforts, Connie had refused to attend. She had given excuse after excuse until the nurse had given up asking. One person who wouldn't give up was Staff Nurse Masters; he wanted to get to know the Clinical Lead better and find out what made her tick. Seeing her vulnerable side when she had been ill had taken him back but he loved to see the 'Ice Queen' at work; knocking on her door, he stood in the doorway, leaning against the wooden frame.

"Why wont you come tonight?" He asked.

"I'm busy" she answered, not looking up from her paperwork.

"Come for one drink?"

"Cant"

"Cant...or dont want to"

"Does it matter?" She asked, finally looking at him.

"Just thought you deserved a night out as much as the rest of us"

"Well, thanks but no; i intend to spend the evening with my daughter"

"Just one drink sweetcheeks, that's all, promise"

"No, back to work"

As he left, Connie sighed; a part of her was telling her to go, even for just one drink but the other part was saying it was bad idea. Stepping out of her office a short while later, Jacob was immediately at her side; matching her step for step to keep up with her quickening pace.

"Why wont you come?"

"Why wont you do some work?!" She put back to him.

"I will...when you say yes"

"Do some work or you'll be looking for another job" she warned.

"Come on sweetcheeks; just one drink. Say yes and i'll leave you alone"

"I highly doubt that" she answered, continuing to walk around the department, signing paperwork as various members of staff stopped her.

"One drink"

"Connie, you're needed" Zoe said, interrupting the conversation between the two.

By the time she'd exited Resus and her patient was on it's way upstairs, the rest of the staff were getting ready to head to the indian restaurant they had chosen.

"Have a good night" she said to her staff as she headed to her office.

As the rest of them left, Zoe followed Connie and watched as she put her coat on and picked up her bag.

"You definately not coming?" Zoe asked.

"I have to get back to Grace"

"I'm sure she'll be fine with the housekeeper for a little while longer; you're paying for this. Only fair you should enjoy it as well..."

"How did you...?"

"No way in hell would Hansenn be footing the bill; anyway, you've got all over christmas with Grace. It's a couple of hours; when was the last time you went out...without her?"

"Okay, let me call her"

"I'll wait outside"

As Connie and Zoe walked into the restaurant twenty minutes later, shd couldnt help but notice the smile on Jacob's face; she decided to sit on the opposite end of the table to him with Zoe. With the curry eaten, she'd gone to get a round of drinks from the bar when Jacob slid in next to her, intending to help her with the drinks; they'd both had a couple by that point and she didnt say anything when she felt a hand on her back.

"Glad you came sweeetcheeks?" He questionned.

"My coming had nothing to do with you pestering me all day"

"Course it didnt; having fun?"

"I will be" she said as she took her card out of the machine and put it back in her purse.

By the time, she was getting ready to leave at just before midnight, the only people that remained were Jacob, Connie, Max and Zoe; as she went to pull her coat on, Jacob stood up and held it open for her.

"Always the gentleman arent you Mr Masters?" She grinned, letting a hand rest on is torso.

"I try"

"You are very annoying, do you know that?" She slurred.

"You tell me several times a day"

"And what's with the nicknames? It's annoying and embarrssing"

"I think...you need to go home to bed; let's get you in the taxi"

"I'll go and find one; we'll drop of her off on the way to ours" Zoe offered as she and Max went outside.

"Come on sleeping beauty; you'll feel better in the morning" Jacob said, guiding her outside.

As they both went to open the door, their hands touched and they locked eyes with each other; within seconds, they were kissing passionately until someone wanted to get out the door. As he watched Connie get into the taxi with Zoe and Max, he couldnt help but smile; she may not remember everything in the morning but he sure would and he would have fun teasing her.
