It had been three years since Ash and Greninja had parted ways. Since then, Greninja had been working with Squishy and Z-2 to remove the negative energy left behind by Team Flare. It was difficult work, but eventually the job had been finished a year ago. And for a while, everything had been peaceful.
Until, that is, the attacks had started.
Different Pokemon had been flooding into Pokemon Centers all over Kalos with severe injuries for the past four months. No one knew who was attacking these Pokemon, and the Pokemon were in no condition to tell anyone what they had seen. Greninja could only try to come up with a way to fight against this new problem while praying to Arceus that his friends were still safe.
"Any new patients?" he asked Squishy. The Zygarde core knew that he was asking if any of his friends had been hurt and shook his head.
The frog-ninja Pokemon relaxed visibly. "Thank Arceus," he muttered.
"You know, I think it's Ash you should be worried about the most," Squishy remarked.
Greninja winced, knowing that was true. If Ash and his Pokemon were in danger, there was no doubt Ash would do anything within his power to keep his Pokemon safe no matter what the cost to himself was. His own life meant practically nothing to him. It was a trait that Greninja had found both admirable and terrifying, especially when Ash had jumped off Prism Tower to save Pikachu as well as when he'd almost jumped into a volcano to catch Talonflame.
"I could use him now. He'd know what to do," Greninja muttered. He still missed his trainer, even after three years.
"Greninja, not even Ash would have a plan for everything," Squishy reminded him.
"I know, I know," the frog-ninja Pokemon admitted grudgingly. "Still...."
"I agree, it would be nice to have our friends helping us," the Zygarde core agreed. "Perhaps I could call for Clemont and Bonnie. It should only take a little while."
"We're going to need as many allies as possible to fight off whatever's out there," Greninja replied grimly, looking out the window. "I'll go to Kanto to see if I can find any of Ash's old Pokemon and bring them here. Then hopefully they'll be safe from the attacks."
Both Pokemon sighed and looked at each other. They didn't need to say the truth-that no matter what they did, no one would ever be truly safe from the mysterious attacks until they could find a way to fight back.
