Five years after the dreadful feeling of losing her (Hazel's) loved one to cancer she was almost ready to move on. She knew that crying would not bring Gus back and really didn't cry a lot. She just did some weird things which she felt would keep Gus alive in their minds. For example- the unlit cigarette or reading and rereading 'The Imperial Affliction' again and again. She always said that she was ready to move on but she was just thinking of Gus. She even sometimes found herself murmuring the words,"Augustus Waters." Her regular doses of Phalanxifor were still on and she still had that same cannula, air tank and trolley. She had graduated MCC and very miraculously survived for so long with stage IV terminal Anaplastic Carcinoma (thyroid cancer).
