"mommy?" I called to my mom as i sat at the table kicking my feet back and forth. "Yes sweetheart?"  I smiled as she answered me placing a bowl of fruit in front of me before taking the seat across from me. "Why don't we live closer to the village?"  I traced the edge of the ocean as another wave pulled in and out. I stared at the setting sun and felt a sense of peace rest on me. "Because i love the Ocean, its where i met your father." I turned toward her the wind gently blowing both of our hair. She stared out as if remembering something, placing her in her own world. The most peaceful look resting on her face. "You could say its where you became a possibility. " she said smiling at me. I gave her a cheeky grin before returning my gaze to the ocean. "Mommy?..." "Yes cutie pie?" I smiled at her words. "When I grow up I want to be a bird." I said all joking gone. "Why on earth do you want to be a bird?" she asked laughing. "I want o be able to see the whole world!" I said stretching my arms out. "Oh honey we've got everything we need right here." "Nuh huh.. Not the WHOLE WORLD!" I said. She smiled and pointed out toward the sunset. "Yes we do, the Whole world's right here in our backyard."

My eyes traced over the horizons edge lining the ocean to the sky, a wave of loneliness washed over me. I turned away from the small window of my cell before sitting on the cot. They had ignored my pleads before placing me in here and walking away. I knew this wasn't the normal process, i could only guess they knew i'd run away if they had taken me where they usually take the sacrifices. I dropped my head in my hands, what was i gonna do? My town was filled with ultra-super religious people, and anyway no one would listen to me anyways. I felt tired and wanted nothing more then to go home.  I heard a door open and quickly jumped up grabbing my iron bars and desperately trying to see who it was. "Hello!?" I called in to the silence. "Hey let me out of here! you've got the wrong girl!!" The door opened revealing a boy about my age. His green eyes stared at the ground, desperate to avoid mine. He looked uneasy as he approached my cage. "Please you've got the wrong girl. It cant be me" He ignored me, his eyes focused on the package in his hand as he slid it through the bars. I looked down at it before returning my eyes to him. "I dont want this, i want out..please...I dont want to die.." this brought his eyes to mine, and for a moment i had something I hadnt seen in a long time. In his eyes....they held...sympathy. But it was gone as soon as it came and his eyes were once again focused on the ground before him as he left me once more..alone. I stared at the door for the longest time before kneeling down to the package. A note was taped to it "dress." I opened it pulling out a long flowing peach dress, the color of the sunset as it rest against the ocean. I clutched the dress to me, i couldnt help the tear the ran down, dropping on to the dress. And for the first time since my parents died...I fell to my knees and cried. No one was listening, and because of this ...I was going to die.

Soon enough i had stopped and put the dress on, mostly because an unknown girl had walked in and had suddenly started stripping me. It fit perfect and felt so light, I would have loved it, had it not marked me as dead. No later had the masked men returned and taken me from my cell. They bound my hands and lead me up a flight of stairs to a large wooden door.  I flinched as the setting sun hit my eyes and revealed the villagers to me. Many were cheering..others were not. They werent sure if they should acknowledge me or not so they remained silent. I was pushed forward by one of the men, but only slightly. It felt strange, the people who had ignored me all my life, now stood before me cheering at my death. I walked down the aisle formed by the people to the top of the cliff. A man in a long white robe stood waiting for us...the village priest. I was forced to the very edge of the cliff then left by the guards. Silence fell upon us and I traced the sunset to the rocks, a sense of fear and sadness overcame me...I didnt want to die... "Oh Great God Poseidon, Hear your people! We come bearing you a sacrifice." The priest began His voice seem to become the air itself. "The one who shall become one with you we send you her in the Hopes of another year of peace and prosperity." I felt the sadness grow...I knew he would be finished soon. "We humble ask you to accept this Gods Sacrifice..." A tear slid down my face and i wanted nothing more then to be a bird, and fly off leaving all this behind me. I slowly turned around and faced the people of the village. People who had been chanting had quickly looked away, and the others kept their gazes locked on the ground, even the priest avoided my gaze. A lump formed in my throat...even at death, they wont look me in the eye. Angry sadness overwhelmed me. "LOOK AT ME!" I cried out breaking the silence. Tears poured from my eyes. "Im a person, IM HERE!" I yelled stomping my foot in anger. "IM SCARED AND LONELY ...and....and I..Dont want to die..." I cried staring at the ground. My eyes raced over the villagers, those who had looked quickly turned away...most had kept staring at the ground ignoring me to the very end. I felt at a loss...so scared, so sad and so ..alone. "i see, even at death...you ignore my existance...Are you so set on your beliefs you all feel nothing for a dying girl, crying in front of you? You cant even look me in the eyes...Pathetic." i whispered. I dont know what i expected...I wanted a hug, an apology, any sign that they regretted their actions, any sign that...they acknowledged me. "alright...I guess this is farewell, Good bye Jake.." I said watching as the green eyed prison boy's eyes flew up to mine in shock. one after another I named off all the villagers names, each one's eyes flying up to mine. Finally i said the high priest's name catching his eyes. I smiled as more tears filled my eyes. "....Remember me." I said allowing my tears to fall as I closed my eyes...and fell.
