Lights flashed red and sirens wailed. There was a mad rush as everyone tried to board the train as quickly as possible. Babies screamed in harmony with the alarm and everyone held tightly onto their few belongings. Despite the fact that it was the end of the world, or at least the world as they knew it, thieves and pickpockets latched on to anything that wasn't being carefully watched.
Police men and train conductors blew whistles and tried to organize the mess that was growing on the train platform, but it was all in vain. Uniforms didn't matter anymore.
Nothing mattered besides getting to safety.
I gripped my suitcase with one hand, and with the other I held on to my younger sister. She was shaking and hyperventilating and I didn't blame her. Our entire life was being uprooted. Not only do we experience nightmares when we're asleep, the things from our dreams have come alive to haunt us by day. I tried to distract myself from the crying and shrieking that was quickly growing to a crescendo by pretending that none of it was real. None of the wars, and famines and overpopulation and pollution. None of the hooded, smoky, fanged extra terrestrials swarming through their streets that destroy anything in their path. It was all a figment of my imagination, an idea sparked from a horror movie. I was lying in bed safely, covered by the blanket that offered security as well as warmth.
But then my hand got yanked and my mind followed suit, I was wrenched back into reality.
"Come on Keo! It's our turn to board now!"
We sat on the train for another ten minutes before we finally departed the station.
Sophielle had to sit on my lap the entire train ride, for I only just had enough money to pay for a single ticket in the poorest section of the train. We were finally escaping. Our town, which had been in utter chaos for four days has now been destroyed and was under immediate evacuation. Train ticket prices were halved and I had managed to get one.
I didn't know where I was going or how I would survive, all I knew was that I had to. Me and Sophielle had to survive this because we played a big part in The Next Stage. With Jocelyn most likely dead, me and Soph had to try our hardest to survive in memory of him. In memory of our parents and friends, and especially our grandfather, who helped with stage 4 immensely.
But we were tricky to kill and I was confident that we would succeed in getting to the Next Stage.
