Joey's P.O.V.
Despite the great start this morning had my mood sank the moment Daniel announced we had to leave, not because of the festival but because I could see the pained expression that overcame him seconds earlier. However as soon as we entered the festival his gorgeous eyes filled with wonder and joy which also lifted my spirits greatly. There is nothing I want more then for him to be happy. I do not wish to see worry or sadness in his eyes ever, and I will do what I can to prevent it from happening again.
"How are you finding the festival, is it everything you imagined?" I ask Daniel, he smiles brightly back at me.
"More than I imagined, it's so full of life, and the flowers on the cherry trees are truely a beautiful sight, Your Majesty." He says gazing at the newly bloomed cherry blossoms which are the reason for this entire event. I cannot help but be a little annoyed at him calling me Your Majesty but in our current situation such titles are unfortunatly necossary.
"They are quite a sight are they not? Of course I can imagine one beauty that beats even theirs." I say giving him a slight wink. I cannot say who I am speaking about out loud as this is a public event and I am currently surrounded by my guards as we are walking towards the royal podium where I shall be presented with song and dance, great lords and ladies and taste the different newly made spring wines and judge them. And then of course comes the tourney, the really grand event which I of course will also be judging, unless I choose to participate in which case Sawyer will step in as judge. Normally I might have been keen on joining in on the fun, but with the beautiful ravenhaired boy beside me taking care of my every need, riding around on horses and battling lords and knights suddenly does not seem so appealing to me.
"Shall I get you some wine right away, sire?" Daniel asks as I make my way up to my thrown at the podium. The royal announcer stand on my left side ready to announce my arrival.
"No, that shall not be needed at the moment, refreshments will come soon enough. You may take your seat." I say trying not to sound emotionally invested in him. He bowes and finds his place which is on the row behind me on the right side of my seat. Suddenly the trumpets sound and people turn their attention to the podium.
"His Royal Highness, Protector of The Kingdom, Prince Joseph Michael, First Of His Name!" He states clearly. The entire crowd bowes in my honor to display respect, and little girl presents me, as tradition states, with the first blossomed flower from the cherry trees.
"Greetings comrades, strangers, lords and ladies, people from far and near! It brings me great pleasure that you have all come to celebrate that spring has arrived and our cherry trees have finally blossomed. May we have a festival filled with joy, and an honerable tourney. I wish good luck to all participants, may the odds be ever in your favour." The crowd stands up again as I take my seat. I let a breath out that I did not notice I was keeping in.
"Were you nervous, sire?" Daniel asks slightly amused. I turn around to face him with a smile.
"Honestly, I hate giving speeches." I say with a slight giggle. He smiles brightly back at me, he looks so beautiful when he smiles like that, unreserved, truely letting his joy show. It is a much better look then the look of sadness he had this morning. I turn to him, and wave him close with my finger so I may whisper in his ear. I place the cherry blossom I received in the palm of his hand.
"I want you to have this, it is the only thing in the world that can come close to matching your beauty." I whisper softly letting all my love seep into my voice. I see a small tear escape his eyes, and I worry for a moment before his smile turns impossibly bigger.
"Thank you, I shall treasure it as dearly as I do you." He whispers back. And in that moment I can't help but ask myself; is it possible that our fairytale might come true?
