Vea POV
When we got home I immediately started preparing for dinner, breakfast style. Michelle and I used to do this all the time back when she was still single. She would always cook the chocolate chip pancakes while I would always make ham and cheese omelette. I loved choco chip pancakes and she loved the omelette, so we always made the dish the other one loved. After everything that has happened this was the first thing I introduced to Mitch, she has to know the smallest tradition my sister and I ever made.
When she just gave birth to Mitch, she would always tell me that she was excited to teach her daughter our simple bonding ways. To make sure that once she had her own sister, they would also keep the tradition. Michelle and I always bonded inside the kitchen while growing up with our mom. It was not just tradition it was a time for our memories to be remembered, when life was still simple.
I got the eggs and started whisking the eggs to make the omelette and pancakes, plus the little girl's favourite French Toast. I was happy making the meals we would serve our guests, when a voice suddenly interrupted my little working dance.
"I see you still dance when cooking, I missed that." Marcus said while leaning against the door looking directly at me.
I shrugged and simply said "Well it makes it more fun, and feels less like a chore."
He smiled and walked near the counter and watched me do my work again. I would say that I wasn't conscious of what he was doing but that would be the biggest lie of my life.
"So you were in contact with Angela all this time and you never contacted me. I should say that's okay but it really isn't. I want to know why you didn't stick around, you could have stayed and saw everything going to its proper place but instead you ran away and came back without even telling me. I know I have hurt you when I was too blind to see what was in front of me but dammit you should have stayed." He said in a low voice making sure Angela and Mitch didn't hear him.
I let out a sigh and answered him.
"I wasn't going to wait and watch you live your happily ever after, it would hurt too much. I needed to get over you and I thought that by cutting all contact it would be best for me. As for Angela, she was always like a sister to me and I couldn't let her go and I guess she couldn't either. I mean she's only got you for a sibling and well you're not as fun as me." I said which gave me a smile. Then I continued "I didn't want to come back immediately but Michelle needed me when she gave birth and then Mitch needed me to be her family after the accident." I didn't know if I wanted to continue with my little rant because somehow it still hurts to talk about Michelle and well I know deep down Marcus already knows about it "If I still know you like I knew you before, I'm guessing you have been thoroughly updated with what has happened to me the past four years." I said.
He only looked at his intertwined hands and gave me a short nod.
Marcus had always been curious that way, he couldn't wait for information to be freely given to him he'd have it investigated immediately. I was surprised he didn't manage to find me in that four year span, but then I got Angela's help in distracting him when he got a little too close. I also know that he got too distracted when he was made into a partner in his law firm.
