"Come on Matty, we don't have all day," George called out as he ran around their apartment. Sound check was less than an hour away and Matty was taking forever to get ready.
"George, I don't want to go. Can't we just stay home?" Matty asks - his voice cracking. "I don't, I don't feel too good. I just want to go back to bed."
George walked into their shared room, frowning as he saw Matty standing in front of the floor length mirror. Matty had been struggling with his appearance lately, but George didn't know just how bad it had gotten.
"Love, you look beautiful. Adam, Ross, and John will surely think the same." George whispers, walking up behind Matty and wrapping him up in a hug. "How about we make a deal, hmm? You come to sound check with me and when we get home we can spend the rest of the day wrapped up in bed."
Matty stood in front of the mirror, lost in thought. He hated the way he looked. Was it worth it to go to sound check?
"George, I don't know." Matty was about to continue but tears left his eyes before he could. George quietly wiped the tears from his eyes and smiled in understanding. He guided Matty over to the bed and told him to sit down.
"I think I know what'll make you feel better, love," he said as he went over to his closet. He pulled out a black bow. It was tiny but significant. It always cheered Matty up.
He walked back over to Matty and pulled his hair up, placing the bow above his ponytail. He slowly turned Matty around and began to smile at him. Matty, to his surprise, smiled back.
"You always know how to cheer me up Georgie, what would I do without you?" Matty asked as he hugged George tightly. George failed to notice that Matty felt skinner.
"Let's go to sound check, yeah?" George asked, wrapping Matty up in his favorite jean jacket.
-
As soon as Matty walked into sound check, Adam and Ross wrapped him up in a hug. It was long and a bit awkward, but that's what friends are for, right?
Ross was the first to speak. "Hey mate, how are you feeling? It's been a while. Your hair looks cute, by the way." Adam nodded in agreement, smiling brightly at his friend.
"I'm doing alright," Matty mumbled as he looked around for George. He looked a bit like a lost puppy. George was always by his side, where had he disappeared to?
Ross decided to fill the silence. "Let's go order some food and then we can start recording." He grabbed Matty's hand and drug him down the hall, Adam jogging to keep up.
Once inside the kitchen, Ross and Adam ordered almost everything on the menu. Matty, on the other hand, opted for half a sandwich. Ross looked at him in concern but Matty just shrugged, a lie slipping off his tongue. "George fixed me breakfast this morning."
Ross and Adam nodded in response. Of course George would have fixed Matty breakfast, that was such a Matty and George thing. It would have been weird if George hadn't fixed Matty breakfast.
After the food was ordered, the trio set off for the recording studio. Hopefully George would be there and the day would pass quickly. Matty really just wanted to go home and sleep.
-
"That's a wrap!" Ross shouted, high fiving Adam on his way out of the studio. The immense relief that fell over Matty was unreal. While he did love recording, he sometimes wishes he could do it alone - just so no one could look at him.
George walked up behind Matty, wrapping him up in a hug and grinning. "Matty, you did so amazing today. I'm proud of you."
Matty just nodded his head up and down and turned around to face George. "Home?" He asked, eyes pleading in an odd way.
"Of course, yeah. Let's go."
-
As soon as they arrived at their apartment, Matty was tugging George inside. He wanted to sleep. Desperately.
"Love, wait. You need to take off your bow before you wrinkle it, yeah?" George asked, already unpinning it from Matty's hair.
After George stripped down to his boxers and Matty changed into his nightshirt, they crawled up under the blankets together. George wrapped his arm around Matty's waist and began to run his fingers through his hair.
Matty sighed, finally content. Here in George's arms, he was safe.
