I ran up to the common room to look for Ginny. What if I had ruined out friendship! Sometimes Ginny could be a pain, and don't get me started on Ronald. He would flip out if he knew that Harry liked Ginny and Ginny liked Harry. I could imagine the headlines now. Chosen one NOT killed by Voldemort, but by maniacal over-protective brother. I grinned. Sometimes I was just to hilarious.
I made it up to Gryffindor tower panting. Jesus, I should really pop into the muggle world and join a gym. I said the password, but the lady wouldn't let me in. "Excuse me" I said, "I ned to get through." Se looked around nervously. "Of couse, of couse. I just wanted to say goodbye." What? "Why are you saying goodbye?" I asled. The lady frowned. "You'll see." I shrugged it off. Sometimes paintings were ca-ray-zy.
In the middle of the common room stood professor McGonnagal, looking very uncomforteable. As soor as I walked through the portirat, she jumped up.
"Finnaly!" she exclaimed. But then she closed her eyes and pressed them to her forehead. "Miss Dern, we have some unfortunate news."
The color drained from my face. The last time this happened, someone I had loved dearly was lost.
She cleared her throat. "Miss Dern, it seems that the sorting had has made some kind of... mistake."
I looked at her quizzicaly. "What do you mean?"
McGonnagal looked around. Up, down, left, right, just not in my direction.
"Professor?" I said. I had started to slowly shake with fear.
Finally McGonnagal looked at me. "I mean, Miss Dern, that you are suppose to be in Slytherin."
I gasped. "What do you mean?" I've been living in Gryfindor for 6 years now!"
She sighed. "I am aware of that. It seems that the night you were sorted, Voldemort had switched the hat so that you, Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasly, and Ms. Granger would all end up in Gryfindor. I don't why, but this is what happened. We have just found out and Dumbledore has insisted you go to your real house.
I looked at her, shocked. Finally, I sat down. Slowly I asked "What houses are we... supposed to be in?"
"Ms. Granger is suppose to be in Hufflepuff, Mr. Weasly with her, and you and Mr. Potter are suppose to be in Slytherin."
I squezzed my eyes shut. This can't be happening! I love Gryfindor. With it's tower view, and even more then usual magical feel, I knew this is truly where I belonged.
McGonnagal sighed. "You and Mr. Potter will be moved to your new house tommorow, and you will be rooming with Ms. Parkinson."
I screamed. "Pansy! Anyone but Pansy, she's mean, she's cruel, and I'm almost posotive she is a lesbi-".
McGonnagal cut me off. "I will have no talk of other students gossip in my presence!"
I looked down at my feet and mumbled "Sorry, professor".
I looked around at the common room that had been my house for years. It was so warm and cozy.
In the middle of the room two first years were playing wizard's chess.
The fire made the room feel so cozy and nice.
I couldn't leave.
"Ms. Dern, you may pack up your stuff and I will levitate it down tomorrow." Said McGonnagal, making me snap out of my train of thought.
And with that, she left.
NEXT DAY
I crying on my bed while Hermionie comforted me.
"Shh," she said, but I could tell she was scared too. I mean, Gryfindor's known for bravery, Ravenclaw for smarts, Slytherin for evil. But what the hell was Hufflepuff?
She got up from the bed and went to her side of the room. I've been sharing a room with Hermionie for 6 years.
I looked out of my window onto the forbidden forest.
It was lightly snowing outside and it looked beautiful.
Wait, What? I turned to Hermionie. "Why is is snowing outside? It's the middle of September!" She looked at me quizzicaly, then outside. "I... I don't know. Probably just some weird weather fluke."
Something was going on, but what was it?
Hermionie sighed. "McGonnagal's coming soon, and we have to finish packing." Her eyes were puffy and her hands were shaking as she folded her robes into her trunk.
My eyes started to warter again. There was no way that I was a Slytherin!
I would only realize how wrong I was in the future.
