Thus began the life of Sevi Grace, the boy who tried to escape all possible contact (not even exchanging so much as a glance) with the newly hired recruit, avoiding him at all costs. With his sharp intuition, he could sense there was something dangerous about being associated with the new guy.
Ever since Warren integrated into the Gustav's 'fam' a little bit too suddenly--without 'due process' as Sevi would like to call it--Sevi was forced to adapt to the situation, which meant not using the changing room when Warren was there, holding his pee in when Warren was in the bathroom, retrieving the empty plates when Warren was serving customers.
If one good thing came out of his added presence, it would be that customers (precisely, female customers) increased, and he was blending in well with the fam, despite not intending to. Something about his carefree and fuck-the-naysayers attitude must have struck a chord with people, Sevi thought jealously.
More and more, Sevi decided he didn't like this man. What took him years to accomplish, this man seemed to do effortlessly in an instant. He thought while scrubbing the plates vigorously. Though Sevi was often...uncomfortable with Warren, he could not bring himself to hate him--or anyone for that matter. Hate and Sevi did not go together.
"So.. where are you from?" Sevi overheard one customer talking to Warren.
"The south."
"You look like someone who gets into a lot of trouble," the girl purred.
"Oh, I get into those a lot," Warren half-chuckled, though his eyes were serious.
"Tell me."
"Well, there's the trouble with looking for the right woman..."
Then the girl giggled. "Oh yeah? Maybe I could help you with that.."
Daylight flirting. Sevi, for the first time, felt an urge to roll his eyes. (As did everyone in the kitchen and behind the counters watching Warren, agape). Was this man serious? All of their expressions seem to say.
"Heck, and I cant even get me a girlfriend after a hundred tries at Tinder," Javier muttered under his breath.
After the shift was over, Sevi quickly returned to the changing room while Warren was out cleaning the remaining tables.
Of course, that didnt work out for him, as luck would have it. Unlucky and Sevi were two words associated with each other.
In the midst of changing, Warren entered the room and voila, Sevi's nightmare turned to reality.
Clumsily, Sevi hurriedly put on his shirt and shut the locker, then pretended he was invisible as he tried to slip away from the room.
Being invisible when you were not was an absolutely painful experience. Painfully cringing.
"What are you doing?"Warren eyed the Sevi now pretending to be a wallflower.
"Oh, nothing. J-Just leaving Iwasdonewithwork you can change now um yeah," Sevi stuttered hopelessly.
"You loser."
Sevi blinked.
"You're pathetic."
Sevi blinked again. Sevi decided he was going to fight. He was not going to stand his pushing any further. No, he wasnt.
"L-look here. I didnt, didnt do nothing--I mean, anything--to you. You-You dont have to be so, so mean!"Sevi blurted out, and ended with a deep inhale.
Silence ensued.
Warren also didnt know why he was being extra mean to the boy who had nothing to do with him. Maybe it was his 'goody two shoes' manner and face, maybe because he had the same initials as the one he deeply longed to see. Anyhow, he normally wasnt needlessly cruel, but something about the young boy irked him to no end.
"Too bad, it's not in anything you did that pisses me off, but your very existence."
(A/n: damn Warren, that's mean.)
Then Sevi did the completely unexpected. He burst into tears.
Seeing teardrops fall from his eyes, it was now Warren's turn to be panicked and flustered. Warren freaked out internally.
"Why cant we just be good friends? Why do you hate me so much?" Sevi said, in between crying. "I just want to be your friend!"
Warren panicked even more, watching the boy who was now confessing the friendship proposal to him.
"Look, Im sorry. I dont know what came over me to say that. I didnt know that you wanted to be..friends with me, I was under the impression that you hated me." Warren replied, trying to calm his coworker as much as possible.
But Sevi was already out of control. "No! I dont hate you. I never hated you. Why would you think that?"
"Well, you were obviously avoiding me everywhere I went. I could also tell from the way you never talked to me."
"Well that's because!" Sevi fumed.
"Because what?"
"Because I was scared of you," Sevi muttered quietly.
"Why do I scare you?" Sevi could feel Warren becoming serious all of a sudden. Warren stepped closer, and Sevi's breath hitched.
"That's b-because you..."
"Am I intimidating?" Warren stepped closer. "Do you want to run away from me now?"
"No! I-I didnt mean--"
"Do you think that Im a monster?" Warren's eyes were dark.
Sevi felt utterly trapped.
"I never said that."
"Too bad, because it looked like you were thinking it."
With that, Warren left, leaving Sevi, whose legs gave out, to collapse on the floor.
