I again was mostly alone in the castle just wandering about because my sister had left for their trip to Usmon. My older sister, Princess Gabriela, was betrothed from birth to Prince Leo, the youngest of two brothers.
She had left me behind because I at the age of 9 was too young for that extensive of travel. I ran my pale fingers along the cold stone of the castle walls remembering the times I played with my sister and found myself at my favorite part of the whole castle. The library. I stopped before the giant oak doors before pulling them open to reveal shelves two stories tall lining all four walls and comfortable chairs in the middle. A servant walked into the room carrying a handful of books before I was five feet closer to the comfort of a chair. I walked up to her as she curtsied "Princess Rose" and grabbed a book off the top of the wobbling tower she was managing. Looking around for my favorite chair I decided on just sitting in a large pillow in the corner and began to get sucked into another world. In this world I did not have the burden of marrying someone I didn't love of responsibility of acting like a proper lady wherever I went. Instead I could be a knight and stop the a Great War.

"Princess Rose I am so sorry to disturb you but dinner with the King and Queen starts very shortly and it is time to get ready

"Princess Rose I am so sorry to disturb you but dinner with the King and Queen starts very shortly and it is time to get ready." Another servant said bringing me back to reality.
"Ok tell them I am on my way"
"As you wish" then she curtsied and walked away finally leaving me in peace. I walked down the hallway to my room glad that I did not go 'exploring' all the way to the main library. The door burst open and out rushed two servants not even stopping to look at me. Well they might not have noticed me or maybe they are afraid to address royalty. I thought. Realizing it was most likely the second option because I don't remember seeing them before. Choosing to shrug it off I walked into my room to see a large royal blue dress waiting for me along with the most uncomfortable looking white shoes and pounds of  shining blue jewelry. Sighing I began to put the outfit on and then remembered to grab my crown off the nightstand.

The castle walls were full of dancing shadows as the last sunlight flickered into the hallway collided with the newly light torches. I loved this time of day and wished I could spend it in the garden instead of with my parents. But my wishing could not change reality and I soon reached the doors of the smallest dinning room. A male servant opened the door for me and bowed before carrying on with his duties. As soon as he left my parents rushed me to the table. I sat down across from my mother staring longingly at the empty chair next to her and me.
"Rose stop staring at that chair we have something very important to tell you." My mother said very seriously glancing at the King.
"Yes we just received a letter from Sir Carac." he pulled out a folded letter and placed it in front of me. It read "King Luke I am so sorry to report that on the way to the Stathia castle in Usmon Princess Gabriella took one of the horses in the darkness of nights leaving only a note craved into the soft dirt 'I am leaving to be with my true love Eric and I will not come back so don't come looking for me' when I arrived in Usmon King Rolf was very angry and said he 'You better watch out trying to cheat us like this!' We are going to be home two days after the letter arrives and try to talk some sense into King Rolf." A tear started to role down my smooth pale skin following by another and another until I was crying in the middle of dinner knowing that I would never be able to see the sister I had loved so dearly would never be in my sight again. My mom noticed and walked over to me, picked me up out of my seat, and gave me a giant hug. Father followed suit after seeing my sadness. It felt so loving and I wanted to stay like that forever but my dad pulled away then after his embrace around dissipated my mother was free to walk back to her seat. Putting on the most unbelievable smile she sighed and said "Well let's eat we wouldn't want all of this food to get cold."
I nodded a response but felt unable to eat so I slowly picked a small roll and began nibbling on it deep in pointless thought.
Did he say 'war'?
Is this kingdom really prepared for a war?
This is all Gabriella's fault! If she knew her place...
I decided to shut those thoughts out until Sir Carac returned with the full details.
"Honey are you going to be okay?" My dad asked looking at my probably unreadable expression and shutting down my internal argument.
"Yes, I think I just need some time to myself. May I be excused from dinner?"
"Of course." My mother answered for him. With that I set down my napkin, wiped the tears of my faces, and walked out with whatever confidence I could muster.

The walk to my room was filled with more internal debates and when I arrived at last I was almost too deep in thought to change into a nightgown. Luckily my servant Rebecca was there to change me and blew out all the candles leaving me to be swallowed up by the darkness of my thoughts once again. I tossed and turned but my mind was still filled with visions of my sister dying without seeing me again, an angry King shouting threats at us, and my kingdom in terror with many dead as the Usmon army attacked.

When Sir Carac returned my fears were being to come true. I looked in the back of the carriage hoping that my sister would magically be there but all there was were empty seats. Even worse he told us about how angry the king was. The scariest part was a chest that had in thick scraggly handwriting "You better watch your back Eplaren cheaters!" That image was burned into my memory as soon as a saw and I knew my days would no longer be as carefree.
