Dilemma

Chapter one

Breaking news: "the son of Senator McCain has been murdered. According to inside sources, he was found in his bathtub with lacerations around his neck and two stab wounds to his stomach. We hope that justice is served for Ashton rests in peace. We send our condolences to the McCain story and we will keep everyone updated on the story as soon as we receive more information." My God, that is so horrible Maya thought, she didn't understand why people were so cruel in this world and she couldn't even fathom how these disgusting monsters lived with themselves after committing crimes. She didn't condone violence, she believed that one should only turn to violence when in grave danger. She sent out silent prayers to the McCain family for she knew that Ashton was a great and bright kid. He had just turned twenty-one and was on the road to becoming one of the States' most sought out accountant and he was never in the media for any scandalous stories.

Her sorrow soon turned into anger, How many more innocent lives have to be lost! She hoped that whoever did this crime would pay immensely. She switched off her TV and went to the kitchen to make breakfast. At 27 she lived alone in a condo while most of everyone she went to school with was married, most of the time this didn't bother her but today was one of those days she wished she had a special someone to comfort her and tell her that humanity wasn't lost and that there's still hope. Her mom kept asking her when she was getting married and giving her grand babies and every time her answer would be the same... she just didn't find anyone yet, her mom would never understand but to her she needed someone who had the same intellectual level as her. Everyone she dated in the past four years was either too immature to wear their pants on their hips instead of 'sagging' them or too self-absorbed to care about her. 'I'm so done with men' she thought to herself. She checked the time on her clock in the dining room and saw that if she didn't leave her home now to go to work, she would be late to work so she quickly finished her breakfast and put her dishes in her dishwasher and rushed out of her house.

Maya was a lawyer at Warner and Myers Firm. She's been working there for four and half years and she soon hoped she'd be made a partner as she was only a senior criminal lawyer there. Her firm was very successful and in her state it was the runner up firm of the year after their rival - Law&Trust - but she wasn't petty though, their lawyers were good but so were theirs, no hard feelings. She entered the building "Morning Mary, how are you?" she said cheerily to the receptionist who reminded her of her aunt who was a no nonsense kind of woman but very sweet. "Maya darling, I'm well just a bit saddened over the news about the McCain boy" she said with sadness in her voice. "me too, he had a bright future ahead of him" Maya muttered then shook her head, she did not want to dwell on it any longer otherwise it would dampen her whole mood today "I need to get going, I'll see you later Mary" they said their goodbyes and she left for the second floor towards her office.

By the time it was lunchtime she didn't realise that she had done most of her paperwork and she was relieved because this meant that she could sleep early tonight, most times she'd sleep after ten o' clock which wasn't healthy. Her stomach grumbled reminding her that she needed to eat lunch so she ordered from the Chinese place that delivered to her office. She ordered what she always id when she ordered there: fried tempura and pork fried rice- her weakness. While she waited for her food she moved to the couch in her office which was directly in front of her TV. She switched it on and changed the channel to the news.

"there has been new evidence for the murder of Ashton McCain and number one suspect has been taken into custody after a piece of his hair was found on one of the knife wounds and to seal it off, his fingerprints were on the murder weapon used to stab him. The suspect has been identified as twenty-two-year-old Liam Hastings. Sources reveal that Liam and Ashton have been friends for two years. Liam is yet to reveal why he did it and is yet to call his lawyer." Maya couldn't believe that someone so innocent looking could have done this, the suspect- Liam was so innocent looking and he looked like he cried the whole sea with his bloodshot red eyes. For a second she almost believed that he was innocent... no she couldn't think that after all in her line of work, looks could be deceiving.
