Prologue
Haylei's P. O. V.
I, Haylei Schaefer, have just been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Never in my wildest dreams, did I ever imagine that there were such things as magic and witches and wizards.
After a confusing trip to Diagonal Alley, and a lot of complaining from my parents, I finally acquired all of the materials I will need for my first term at school.
I'm currently laying in my bed while admiring my wand, which is, as Mr. Ollivander had told me, a 12 3/4" wand made of Beech wood with a Dragon heartstring core. As I start to test its flexibility, I hear a faint knock on my door. "Yes? Come in." I say raising my voice so whoever is outside the door can hear me.
"Haylei, dear," my mother starts as she opens my door. "It's getting late, and you have a big day ahead of you tomorrow. You'd better start getting ready for bed." She says sincerely.
"Oh, alright, thanks mum." I reply with a small smile.
"Not a problem sweetie." She says to me as she gives me a hug and starts to walk out.
"Mum, wait," I start, "I'm nervous."
"Don't be honey, I'm sure you are going to be a great witch," she replies with a loving tone.
"Goodnight, Haylei, sleep tight.""Night mum." I whisper as she closes my door and shuts off my light. I lay my wand on the dresser next to my bed and rest my head on my pillow, hoping that tomorrow, the day I will board the train to Hogwarts, will go well.

I wake up, the sun shining fiercely in my face. I suppress a yawn and check my alarm clock that is sitting on my dresser. The time read 9:04. Wonderful. At 11 o'clock I will be on my way to the greatest school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I reluctantly push myself to sit up in my bed. Getting up, I search for my clothes and in the process make sure that my trunk is fully packed."Haylei, we are heading to Kings Cross station in half an hour. So get ready dear." My mom says as she pops her head in through the cracked open door and then leaves just as quickly as she arrived.
An hour later we arrive at the station. My ticket in my hand, I search around for platform 9 3/4. The only problem is, I don't see a platform labeled 9 3/4.
"Come on boys, this way." I look over and see an older woman with red hair rushing three boys with trunks along and one child standing reluctantly by her side. Her children have her same flaming red hair, and two of them look almost as if they are twins. "Platform 9 3/4 is this way." She ushers her children toward the area between platforms 9 and 10.
Suddenly I get an idea. "Mum, Dad, I think I can figure this out on my own." I say while looking up at them.
"Are you sure sweetie?" My father asks while sharing a quick glance with my mother, then looking back at me.
"Absolutely." I say confidence lacing my words.
"Okay honey, if you say that you can then we believe you can." My mother says while giving me her famous smile.
I return her smile then quickly hug the both of them and my little sister Christina. "Bye mum, bye Dad! Bye Tina! See you soon! I love you!" I yell as I push my trunk away from them and towards the red headed woman. "Excuse me," I say as I approach her. "but do you think that you could help me, you know, get on to the platform?" I ask her nervously.
"Of course dear! Not to worry," she answers my question and smiles brightly. "its Fred and George's first year too." she tells me as she gestures to the two boys who I am presuming are twins. "All you need to do, is walk between platforms 9 and 10. If you're a little nervous, best do it at a bit of a run."
"Oh thank you." I look at her with a genuine little grin as I step behind the three boys waiting for them to take their turns disappearing onto the platform. Once its my turn to go I allow myself to jog towards the wall when all of a sudden, when I'm closing my eyes, prepared to hit the large brick wall, I am suddenly standing in front of a large red and black train. The train is labeled Hogwarts Express along the sides. Thick, foggy steam is bellowing from above the train. I snap back to my senses and follow the load of kids who seem to know what they are doing.
Once my luggage is all loaded onto the train I step on and look down the row. The inside of the train is filled with compartments that look like they can fit at least seven people inside. My feet carry me forward as I look through the small glass windows looking for a place to sit as I hear someone speak in my direction through and open compartment door.
"Hey there's room in here with us." I look to my right and see the two red headed twins that I ever so briefly saw on the platform.
"Er . . . Okay, are you sure?" I ask as I step into the doorway of their compartment.
"Yea, most definitely." the one on the left replies with a smile. "I'm Fred and this is my twin brother George." he states as I walk in and sit across from them. The one named George looks at me and gives me a smile and a wave.
"I'm Haylei. Haylei Schaefer." I grin and exchange a look with both of them.
"Well, Haylei Schaefer," George starts while looking at me. "I have a feeling we are going to be good friends."
Maybe I'm not as nervous as I thought.
