Susie pranced down the wooden steps of her family's farmhouse, eager to wander into the field near her house and do much mischief, without anybody knowing. It was a cool, tranquil evening, around 8:00 P.M., and everyone else in the house was settling down. Susie's mother looked up from the rocking chair nearby and asked her daughter in a sweet voice, "Going somewhere, hun?" Susie gave her mother a perfectly innocent smile and replied "Just for a walk, mother dearest!" Her mother nodded and sternly told her, "Don't do anything dangerous while you're out there." Susie giggled and burst out the screen door.
When Susie was far enough from the house, she went up to a nearby bush near the trees. Inside the bush, Susie took out a medium-sized pack that she had been stocking up with various things from her father's shed. Susie, a 7 year-old girl with long red hair, had been planning an experiment of sorts that she had been aching to do for quite a while. She had seen some really cool things on t.v. where things that normally didn't transpire in real life happened all the time. Tonight, Susie was going to use her surprisingly strong intelligence to pull off a feat that nobody else would ever dare to do.
Susie carefully lifted the pack out of the bush and onto her tiny shoulders, making sure it didn't jostle around. She proceeded to walk away into the nearby wheat field to find the perfect spot to do her experiment. Susie walked for about 15 minutes until she found a wide space in the middle of the wheat field that was devoid of any vegetation. She smiled to herself and began to unload the contents of her pack. With total care, she emptied the hefty treasure onto the ground, and took a moment to observe it.
On the ground before Susie lay a large bundle of long, red candles wrapped in a strange ebony twine. These candles looked a lot different from the candles her parents used for light. Susie carefully unwrapped the twine around the bundle and carried it several yards away. It took her an entire minute to unravel the mass of twine, which was still attached to the bundle of candles in the distance. Susie grinned and took out a box of matches from her pocket, which she had found in the kitchen cupboard. She lay the twine on the ground, and was about to light a match when she heard somebody yell "STOP!"
Susie groaned and turned around to see Dylan, her scrawny 11 year-old brother with a shock of blonde hair, running towards her from across the field of wheat. When he reached her, he paused a moment to catch his breath, clutching his knees as he stood before her panting like a dog. Susie gave him a very irritated look and snapped, "What do ya want, dipwad?" Dylan finally recovered from running and pointed a long finger at his sister. "I know what you've been up to, you sneaky little brat!" Dylan shouted as Susie stood there glaring at him. "You've been stealing things from the shed so you could do something stupid like this!" Susie rolled her eyes at him, and suddenly told him in a commanding tone, "Get that piece of filth off your shirt, Dylan, you look ridiculous." Dylan paused to look down at his shirt as Susie smirked in triumph.
In one swift motion, Susie took out a single match, lit it, and lowered it to the black twine on the ground in front of her. The twine caught fire instantly, and began to dissapear at a frightening rate as the flame rushed towards the far away bundle of candles. Dylan looked up from his apparently clean shirt to see his little sister grinding the match under the heel of her shoe. He screamed in terror, "What have you done?!" Susie gave him a truly evil smile and told him, "What you are about to witness, my ignorant big brother, is one of the most exciting moments one can experience in a lifetime." Dylan's eyes widened in fear as he shrieked, "Don't tell me you've-" "Yes, you idiot, I finally discovered what happens when a guy and a girl like each other a bit too much. They KISS! Ain't that disgusting?" Susie interrupted him in a voice full of glee.
Dylan blinked in confusion and stuttered, "No, I mean what are you doing with matches and-" "DON'T CHANGE THE SUBJECT!" Susie screamed in an insane tone. "What you are seeing is the peak of my moments studying the t.v.!" she shouted in a maniacal voice. Dylan began to sweat profusely as the flame became only a few feet from the bundle. "This is crazy!" he screamed in terror. Susie laughed harshly and screamed, "FOOL! This...is ART!" Susie raised her arms as the flame was merely a foot from the bundle. "And ART..." Susie shrieked madly as the flame crept to the last few inches of twine, "is a BANG!"
At last, the flame connected with the bundle of red candlesticks, causing a massive explosion. The fields of wheat were illuminated for a mile around as a pillar of fire swiftly rose into the air. Susie cackled insanely as the blast sent a wave of hot air in their direction, whipping her crimson hair around her, adding to the crazy image she had created for herself. Dylan stood dumbfounded as he gazed stupidly at the slowly vanishing pillar of flame in the evening sky. After a few more burning moments, the flame dissapeared, leaving a cloud of smoke in its wake. Susie sighed in pure bliss as she lowered her arms back to her sides, an overly content look on her features.
Susie wiped her small, elfish hands on her pants and declared, "Well, I do believe that the experiment was a success." Dylan continued to stand in shocked silence as his little sister walked past him towards their home. "Come along now, Dily-Wily, you don't want to make mother angry!" Susie shouted over her shoulder as she walked away. Dylan blinked and shook his head as he began to follow her home. All he could think of was " How did I end up with a pyromaniac as a sister?"
