I adjusted my tie and looked over myself one last time in the mirror. I had finally worked up the courage to ask out Summer smith and I wasn't going to blow it! I took one last look in the rear view mirror and a deep breath and started driving. It was a long drive or at least it felt like one every fiber arguing about whether or not I should tell her that I couldn't make it that I was sick. That's believable right? Finally I pulled up to my dates house. As I was getting out of the car I came face to face with her grandpa Rick. He shoved a...I think it was a gun? In my face I fell back on the door my arm going threw the open window. He glared for a second then said Back before midnight no funny business. Taking a long drink from a flask he walked away leaving me on the sidewalk. I straightened myself up and adjusted my suit. As I walked up to the door and knocked I thought I can do this it's gone okay so far. Then she opened the door her ponytail a fancy bun and a short flapperish dress just above her knees. I beamed all nervousness gone. After her father took over a dozen pictures I confidently took my dates arm and walked to the car. When I opened the door for her Rick was standing in the driveway taking drink after drink from his flask. She waved to him Bye grandpa Rick see you later! I didn't say anything afraid I might start a fight or something I didn't even look at him either. The rest of the night went well I think! We went to a dance party at a friends place it was clean no alcohol no drugs. I figured it would be a nice change from the insane house party's and expensive school dances. When we arrived we immediately hit the dance floor swinging around wildly and having an amazing time. We laughed so hard at our own silly dance moves we started tripping and hanging off one another from time to time. Eventually we were laughing so hard we were forced to sit down. After finding seats near the dance floor we recovered from our giggle fits. This is awesome I didn't think being sober at a party could be this much fun! YES! She was having fun this was perfect almost nothing could make this better! We continued to alternate between dancing and sitting. We started singing along to the music which was usually either Elvis or some classic rock. A few modern songs played including one by skillet but for the most part we learned as we went. We would have stayed all night I'm sure if it weren't for that heinous curfew. We cut it as close as we could stumbling out the door and to my car in the middle of the party. We were only a few miles away and made it to her house way to soon. I walked her to her door and was about to say goodbye when she pulled me in for a kiss. We stood like that for a moment and then she let go and just as suddenly walked back inside. I stood a second then with a sad smile walked back. Before I drove off I caught her grandpa working in the open garage. It really is a shame soon I'm going to have to introduce Tammy and it's all down hill from there. She's such a fun happy girl maybe we make it work in another dimension.
