You have one day left to live and Sans has yet to keep his promise.

"You have one day left to live."

The doctor's words kept repeating inside your head. It's echo was loud enough to make your ears bleed.

A few months ago, you were diagnosed with a strange illness. It only used to be a migraine inside your head but after a certain check-up, it was actually a fatal disease. Many hospitals speculated that it was cancer but you doubted them. The only problem was, there is no cure.

It was a slow but painless death. The nurses have already removed the pipes connected to your body that help you breathe. It's a waste of oxygen. Now you were stuck between trying to get some air in your lungs and making sure that you blink. A small sign that you're still alive. It's tiring.

"Heya..."

You look up to see a familiar grin.

Sans loomed above you despite his short height. A forced smile was plastered on his face and tear streaks were visibly running down his eye socket to his chin. It was too noticeable. He seemed to be crying for quite a while. His left hand loosely held a bouquet of sunflowers with one echo flower in the center. Your favorite.

"Hey." You replied with a small smile, voice hoarse and dry. You struggled to sit up, barely managing until Sans helped you lean on the bed's headboard.

With a better view of his face, you noticed that there were shadows under his eye sockets and his pupils were bleary. He looks exhausted.

He shifted and sat down on the side of the hospital bed and then gently placed the bouquet on your lap. You took it softly on your hands and examined it. The echo flower's glow seems out of place, but that's the point.

"I love you......I love you.......I love you......." It repeated.

You felt your soul flutter at the loving statement.

"Thank you. You're so sweet," You started before adding, "I wish I could've taken a 'photo'-synthesis of this moment."

"You tickle my funny bone, kiddo." He said blankly. Both of the jokes sounds bleak. It isn't funny anymore.

Sans' smile faltered and his expression turned into a somber one.

"S-so," He croaked, "Are you ready?"

You nodded meekly in response. You know exactly what he meant.

"Well... here we go."

He snapped his fingers and blinding light enveloped your whole body, making you feel dizzy. It was always like this when Sans teleports.

Both of you landed on a wide field. The grass was naturally moderate in height and the flowers swayed at the evening breeze. Millions of beautiful sparkling stars scattered across the dark night sky. This was both yours and Sans' favorite stargazing area.

"I actually kept my promise this time, sunshine." He whispered, looking down on his feet.

"Heh... I'm proud of you, Sans." You told him, "I really am."

You know all-too-well that promises are incredibly important to Sans. You practically begged him to take you to this place before you... leave.

Laying down on the soft grassy plains, you peered at the stars.

"I'm gonna miss this place." You murmured, "I hope that there are stars in the afterlife."

That sounds so depressing.

"You're the only star I need..." Sans hummed and sat down just next to you, staring into the distance.

"I-I'm gonna miss everyone."

"I'm gonna miss you." He whispered.

And that's it. You broke down. Fresh tears began to fall from your eyes and you sat up.

"I don't want to die! I don't want to leave Toriel, Papyrus, and Undyne. I don't want to leave anybody! I don't want to leave you!" You weeped and furiously wiped the tears off your face.

Sans patted your back and rubbed small circles on it in an attempt to calm you reassure and calm you down. He pulled you into a tight hug and let you cry on his scapula. After a few minutes, your crying turned into sobbing, and finally, subsided into soft sniffles.

"You're not gonna lose us, okay? We'll always be there for you." He comforted and pulled back from the embrace, looking at you straight in the eye. His left eye light burned an electric blue while the other was gone. He held your hand and showed you the silver engagement ring on your finger. The wedding never had a chance to take place with your condition.

"Do you remember what this ring means?" He asked but you simply stared at him.

Sans was crying.

"It means that we're together. We'll be together forever." He declared, "So please... Don't cry. Just.... stay determined. Alright, love?"

He and laid down but still didn't let go of your hand and said, "Back in the Underground, monsters tend to make a wish at the crystals in Waterfall. That's what we called stars. But now, here we are. Free at last."

Silence filled the air before he spoke again, "Do you have a wish?"

You feel weak. Weaker than before. And that's when it hit you. You're dying.

But Sans' grip on your hand was still strong. You looked at him to see that he was admiring the stars, waiting for your answer. Blue glowing tears was also dripping down his cheekbones. You felt guilty.

Resting on the ground, you gazed at the bright shining dots in the sky.

"I-I wish..."

Sans looked at you. Happy memories of how you first met began to play in your mind. The time when he introduced you to Papyrus. The one when you had your first date at Grillby's. Finally, the moment when he proposed to you.

"I wish that we could see each other again."

You smiled. He beamed at you and scooted closer, the grasp of his hand, never letting go. It started to hurt, but instead you felt numb and your eyelids began to droop.

Sans began to cry harder, his skull flushed blue and his pupils glowing. You hope to comfort him but you felt tired. So tired...

You can't feel anything and your vision was dark. The last thing you remember hearing before you died was,

"I love you."
