Distractions

Sliding into the passenger's seat of Stiles's jeep, I threw my bag on the car floor. Without a word he backed out of my driveway. I think he senses I'm still a little shaken up from last night. I had gotten absolutely no sleep last night. If I tried to, flashbacks flooded my mind.

"I'm sorry." my whispered voice broke the silence. I saw Stiles look at me out the corner of my eye. "What? Why are you sorry?" he asked, confusion laced in his voice. "For choosing not to go out with you and Scott last night." I shrugged, looking down at my lap, playing with my fingers. I felt the car swerve to the right and Stiles put the car into park.

I felt his soft hands grasp mine. I didn't dare look up at him. I kept my attention on my lap. "Cat, please look at me." he pleaded softly. I slowly turned my attention to him, meeting his gaze. His eyes held a sadness in them, similar to mine. I felt my heart slowly start to swell. Just looking at him I knew that I didn't want to be the cause of his sadness, but of his happiness.

"Do not blame yourself for what happened last night." he began speaking softly, as if he was trying to break through the wall that I had built up. "No one could have predicted that a deer would ram itself into the windshield of Lydia's car." he continued. "No one got hurt, right?" he said, trying to lighten up the mood of the atmosphere. I felt the ends of my lips curl up into a slight smile. He always knew how to make me smile, even when I'm really upset. "There's that gorgeous smile." he teased, poking my cheek. I let out a giggle at his weirdness.

I unbuckeled my seatbelt quickly. I turned my body so I was facing him. I leaned over the armrest and wrapped my arms around his neck tightly. "Thank you." I whispered in his ear, feeling him wrap his arms around my waist. "I don't know what I'd do without you Stiles." I finished.

His grip around my waist tighten when I said that. Stiles gave the best hugs. They just make you feel very safe.

I began to unwrap my arms from his embrace. Once his grasp left mine, I felt a lonliness wash over me. I slumped back into my seat. When you first meet Stiles you may think he is a little weird and iffy but once you get to know him, he grows on you. You can't help but love him.

"We're going to be late." I said casually taking a glance at the clock on his radio. "Shit." he mumbled to himself under his breath, before putting the car into drive and driving off to school again.

Luckily we weren't late for our first day back at Beacon Hills High School. I left Stiles to go hang out with Scott, while I went to go meet up with Lydia. She seem perfectly fine, like nothing happened. I gave her a quick side hug, while we entered the school building. Walking down the hall, heads turned. It comes with the title of being Lydia Martin's best friend. You get used to it after a while.

We agreed on going to her locker first. "How are you dealing with Jackson being gone?" I asked, since I didn't get to last night. "I'm perfectly fine. This year is a new year. I'm going to find a distraction." she smirked scanning the halls, looking at all the new boys and freshmen. "Don't you think you should focus on yourself for a little?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at her. "No, a distraction would be good for me." she said, shuffling through her locker. I sighed, knowing her mind was already set. "Fine." I surrendered.

I saw her head snap in my direction. Her gaze set on something behind me. A big smirk appeared on her face. I followed her gaze to be met on two boys walking down the hall. "And there they are." she smirked. "Twins?" I asked, looking at the two boys walking down the hall, girls' heads turning. They had on leather jackets and they each had a motorcycle held in one of their hands. When they passed us I couldn't help but get a weird vibe from them. Something was up with them, but I don't know what. "Hot twins." Lydia confirmed, while checking them out. I shook my head. I'm going to stay away from them. They seem like trouble and I don't need that in my life. "Whatever floats your boat Lyd." I responded, looking over to see her already strutting towards them in her designer heels. "And I'm talking to myself." I mumbled before making my way to my locker, all the way on the other side of the hallway.
