  was it something he did? did he screw up again? how could he have left like that? wasn't this all he needed? couldn't he have at least said goodbye instead of leaving a small note?

  stanford was just some overrated school . . . and dean was a good brother wasn't he?

he was heartbroken. his only brother left him to become a prissy lawyer. 

what would he tell john? what could he say that wouldn't leave him in rage?

"dad, sam left for college" 

no- "i'm sorry dad, but sam left to become a lawyer"?

would he ever see his little brother ever again? he didn't even deserve to have sam in his life anyway. 

"dammit sammy." dean slammed his fist on the motel table, forcing his tears not to fall. he could've done more for sam, he could've supported him better . . . then he wouldn't have left like that. "this is all my fault . . i'm sorry dad"

things to say to john were rushing through his head but were interrupted by the sound of the motel door opening.

"dean? where's sam?"

dean warily turned to faced john and watched his eyes scan the room before answering.

he let out a shaky breath before saying, "dad . . . sam- he- i didn't . . . sam left."

  "he what?"  john's face became a shade of red. "what  did you just say to me?"

   "i'm so sorry, i just went out for a bit- i didn't think he would . . . this is my fault."

   "you're damn right this your fault you fucking screw up." dean's gaze hardened and he stood up straighter.

it seemed like his words shook the whole room. everything was blurred and faded in his head. dean opened his tight fist towards john and he snatched the note out of his hand. 

 john proceded to read it aloud, his voice shaking with anger, "this life isn't for me. i'm going to stanford. they sent me the acceptance letter. bye." john balled up the note and threw it at the peeling wallpaper on the wall. it made a small, dull thud.

  "i told him he can't get away from this life. i told that kid so many times." john said more to himself than to dean. 

 dean's hand moved up to the amulet sam gave him and held it for a second before dropping it to the floor.
