Chapter 3

The rain started to lightly shower the forest. Looking out the window I glance over at our new neighbors. Hunter, Chance, and Asher, they were quite a trio. Asher was looking at me like a puzzle, trying to decide if I was a threat or not. His black hair was short and brown eyes on alert. Chance was more childlike, looking around every five seconds and brushing his blonde hair out of his eyes. I walked over to the bed and sat, Boo walking onto my lap. Chance kept looking at Boo like he had never seen a fox before. Then there was Hunter, he was beautiful like something out of one of my story books. Alluring gray eyes and a very authoritative way about him with longish brown hair that was a little messed up, but it was cute.

I moved Boo and went to the shelf and pulled a book out and started flipping through it aimlessly. I didn’t know much on vampires, but aside from Wares they were top of the food chain, it’s said that the demon king himself is supposed to be one. I stopped on the page about vampires, I only got this kind of stuff by trading with travelers, but that was rare so this book may be out of date. It said that they we super-fast and drank blood, but I already knew that stuff. It went on to their hearing and how great it was, sighing I put the book down, nothing new. I went back over to the window and saw a fire and a camp ground set up. The horses were radiant and noble looking as they stood in a line. Asher was talking to Chance and their fire made a cracking noise, continuing my examination of what all they have done, my eyes connected with Hunter’s and I turned way.

A couple hours pass by and the rain a let up just a little. Boo is sleeping with his tail wrapped around him looking cozy. I grab my cloak, blow out the light and leave quietly. The forest gives off a musical vibe and I start humming along with it, once I get to a field I lie down and look up as the rain hits my face. Closing my eyes I just lay there, feeling the rain, listening. Several moments past by then the rain on my face stops! I open my eyes.

“Ahh!” I push into the ground more before I relies its Hunter bent over me with an unreadable expression.

“What in the world are you doing?”

“Listening.” I push his legs so he’ll move and it works. I close my eyes and continue.

“You look like you’re sleeping.” I ignore him. “Hazel, Hazel what are you doing.” I frown and glance at him.

“I said listening, now shh.” I closed my eyes again. After a moment he sat on the ground and sighed. He was starting to irritate me.

“What are you listening to and why are you lying down?”

“Aren’t you supposed to be sleeping?” I questioned taking a peek at him, he shrugged.

“Aren’t you?”

“Raindrops are the perfect lullaby.” I mumbled in retaliation.

“So that’s what you’re listening to?”

“No, I’m listening to the conversation.” I could hear it loud and clear, it was beautiful and tranquil.

“No one is talking.” He sounded confused. I inhaled and the exhaled loudly.

“The sky is talking to the ground, but you have to listen careful as the rain hits the floor.” He didn’t say anything for a while so I though he left, but when I opened my eyes he was looking at me. “What?” I said frowning tilting my head to the side.

“Nothing, so what is it saying?” I stared at him for a minuet then closed my eyes.

“It’s a secret.” I whispered. We sit there for a moment not talking, and then I shot straight up to the sound of thunder whipping across the sky. Only after, did I notice that Hunter was laughing to himself trying to cover it up as a cough. Frowning I pushed him knocking over his balance, his face was priceless. He looked absolutely stunned, so I started cracking up, making him crack up.
