Black Friday. After the holiday I would really love to be relaxing. Instead I am out shopping with my cousins. Our parents let us go out and spend our own money on things that are usually over priced. Don’t get me wrong I get everything I want. My whole family is loaded with money but why waste it?
My only male cousin Beaux was helping me grab a Xbox One from the shelf. The crowed was huge. We were very close. Beaux and I were born two days apart and of course he was first. He never let me forget it either. My other two cousins were getting Beats and Xbox games. I am 16.
“Can we please go home now?” I complained to Beaux.
“Yes. Now stop complaining.” I’ve been complaining all night. I think he’s finally getting annoyed by it.
“Brooke!” I heard the sweet voice of my boyfriend. He was running over with his little 5 year old sister.
“Hey Cody! Mallory!” I quickly picked her up and spun the little girl around. I loved her. I put the small child back down and gave Cody a kiss.
“Umm eww. I’m leaving.” Beaux snapped. He really didn’t like Cody and I never really knew why. Me and Cody have been together since late July. It hasn’t been that long but we have lasted longer than most of my friends thought.
I’m not the coolest girl in the world. I live for hockey and actually play on my schools all boys hockey team. I am faster and I have wicked skills. I don’t get the respect I deserve though. People think it’s weird. I took my school to the state championship my freshman year. My coach respects me. Some of my team respect me but not the ordinary high school population. I also sing and take lead roles in all of my school plays.
Cody is just a pretty boy. He actually looks like a younger version of Niall Horan from One Direction. He plays football and baseball. Mostly bench but everybody loves him because of his looks. We had our ups and downs but lately I can’t picture us together anymore. I love him a lot but something just doesn’t seem right anymore. I am trying to get over the horrible thought.
“Are you coming over tonight to eat dinner?” I asked Cody.
“I can answer that for you. No.” Beaux coughed out. I smacked him in the arm.
“Just ignore him.” I rolled my eyes.
“Actually I have plans tonight. Sorry.” Cody came over and hugged me. “I really have to go. I love you boo.”
He turned around and walked away. I was disappointed. Sometimes I wonder if he even loves me or cares. I went back with Beaux to meet with his sisters. “Hey dumb and dumber. Let’s go home.” Beaux shouted across the walk way.
Hanna and Heather looked up use to him being so rude to them. They never said anything back to put him in his place. The only real family member he was nice to was me. We did everything together.
We checked out and went to the car. My shiny new Mustang I got for my birthday in September was froze over with ice. Columbus Ohio had the weirdest weather. 8 feet deep in snow one day and 78 degrees the next day. I unlocked the door and drove my cousins back to my house where their parents were.
“Mom I’m home.” I yelled through the house. The high ceilings made my voice echo through the house.
“Okay. We are in here.” I totally ignored my mom and went up to my room with Beaux. He helped me hook up my Xbox One with live.
“Here Brookie. All done.”
“Beaux, do you have to go back up to Erie tomorrow?” I asked knowing he would stay if he could.
“Yeah but you know I’ll drive up here every now and again. The twins go back to college Saturday so they have to catch their flight to New York.” His sisters who are twins happen to be going for the same college. Nobody could truly separate them.
Beaux and I went to bed around 10 o’clock. I was awaken by a text around 2 AM by my best friend Kelli. “Do you know that Cody and Taylor were at the movies tonight together. They seemed to be getting really close and cozy. Dump him already!”
I looked over at Beaux who was still sleeping and falling off my bed. I was in my favorite chair. I threw a pillow at him but he still didn’t wake up. I sighed and never texted Kelli back. I get jealous but don’t show it. Maybe there is a reason they were together. Maybe it wasn’t him. Just somebody who looks similar.
The next morning Beaux, Heather, Hannah, and their parents left for home back in Erie right on the Great Lake Erie. Once they left I grabbed my skates and drove over to the chiller which was the name of the rink I skated in. It was noon so nobody was here.
I was in my skinny jeans and a cut off. I loved having the whole rink to myself. I let my iPhone 5S play Pandora on shuffle while it laid in the net. I shot countless pucks into the net. I skated around making the wind blow through my long brown hair.
“You know you are really good Sutter.”
I looked up into the stands to see Coach Jefferson watching me. I was shocked. “Oh thanks coach.” I always get nervous when he is around.
“Have you ever thought about becoming a hockey trainer in sports medicine. I mean the chance of you, a girl, making it to the NHL is not possible.”
My heart sank. I thought about it before and it is a good idea and something I would like to do but he didn’t have to crush my dream like that. I can do that on my own. I looked up to him a lot though. I snapped out of my thoughts and shook my head.
He walked away leaving me alone in the rink heartbroken. It only makes me want to work harder and show all these people wrong. I skated off and sat on the bench taking off my skates. I looked down at the clock. “3 o’clock?! I’m going to be late for my date!” I screamed to myself.
I ran to the locker room, took a shower, and got changed. Maybe I could still make it. I wasn’t in the cutest clothes and my hair wasn’t straight but It will work. I hope Cody understands. I didn’t even have enough time to put some make up on.
