"When are we leaving?"
"We just got here, Cordelia. Now, don't slouch, walk straighter and for the love of god, Smile," said her mother, clearly exasperated
After all, this was the first society party since they moved here and the Oberlin were firm believers of 'first impression, is the last impression.'
Well everyone except Cordelia, she was just too lazy to care.
Lia noticed her sister walking ahead of them, with her arm linked with their father.
When you think of an elder sister you think loving pep talk about all things girly and occasional fights. Lia's and her sister Anastasia shared the same thing but not quite. Only if you change the pep talk to 'harsh lectures about all thing girly' and occasional fights to regular ones. Lia wished there was at least one real relationship in her life, and was glad that they'd moved here, to their grandma's town. Our own mother is scared to disturb her sanity, thought Lia, she doesn't ever tell her elder daughter to walk behind and let her walk with her husband.
It's all because the episode pulled by Ana, recalled Lia. The reason we moved to another town was because of Ana and her 'mistakes', which were anything but. If only my parents had been firmer and my sister less of a brat.
Lia knew her grandma's supposed illness wasn't the reason they moved, she knows what Ana did, it's her family's dark secret, definitely not hers to tell.
Pushing these dark thoughts aside, Lia smiled. I've faked smiles through hundreds of these afternoon society parties, how long can a birthday brunch of a teenage heir be?
"At least try to make that smile look real, Cordelia," sneered Ana.
How long can a birthday brunch of a teenage heir be?
After a series of hellos, how have you beens, great to see yous, Lia excused herself. Being born to the IT giant of the country and the head fashion designer to a major brand, Lia cared about neither. She didn't really believe a lot in the usage of phone and other gadgets and definitely nothing about fashion. Her mantra of fashion was 'whatever fits, it's good.' It's not like her mother agreed, ever.
Today Lia chose to wear a pale blue summer dress, which her mother rejected right away and forced her to wear a green peplum dress.
But it's not her mother is here to care about here, ever. Dad mostly lived in New York City, where his head office was and mom travels wherever her job takes her. It was mostly Lia and Ana together for each other. Even though they despised each other, they avoided conflicts all through high school by forgetting about each other's existence. This fall, after taking a gap year, Ana was finally going to college.
Lia knew it was going to be her and grandma alone here.
After walking around the gardens for some time, Lia chose to sit on a bench. From here she could see the festivities but people there couldn't see her. She was definitely camouflaged by the green dress she was wearing, Lia laughed to herself.
"You do know that people who sit alone and laugh to themselves are called crazy," said someone behind. When she turned she couldn't help but gasp, damn wasn't he hot?
He looked older yet a little young, definitely around her age. He had dark dark hair and even paler blue eyes. She couldn't help but compare him to Will Herondale from TID, not like anyone like William would ever exist, but this stranger would give him a competition. "And it's also impolite to check someone out like that," he remarked.
Lia, regaining her wit said, "It's not crazy, it's just called enjoying Your own company."
Lia could see him run his eyes over her, who does that? "And repeating what you just said, it's impolite to check someone out like that," she added.
"Will," he said putting his hand forward "it's nice to make your acquaintance."
"Wait what, your name is Will, as in William?" Exclaimed Lia, this has to be a crazy coincidence
"Yes," he replied a Little puzzled "is it a good thing or a bad thing?"
"I wouldn't know" she shook his and said, "Cordelia Oberlin, it's nice to meet you too."
"Clearly," grinned William. She really was something, he thought.
