Chapter 5
I woke up the next day feeling really cruddy. Mom knocked on the door asking if I was alright.
"Yes mom!"
She was always checking. She knows how I feel about life
Everyone has grown up. Except you.
I got out of bed and looked out the window.
Why didn't I kill myself last night?
Then I remembered...
The Boy
"Breakfast is ready sweetheart!" Mom yelled upstairs.
I slowly dragged myself out of bed.
"Honey, good morning!" Dad said as I walked down the stairs. "You look beautiful!"
"Thanks dad." I said and kissed his cheek, leaving a stain of black.
"I'm gonna drive you to school today." Mom said as she handed me my breakfast.
"Okay." I said.
"How is Rosemont High?" Mom asked.
Today was my second week at Rosemont. My mom moved my schools because whenever I saw the parking lot where Megan was shot it made me cry. Rosemont sucked.
"Alright." I replied, lying.
"Good." She said throwing my jacket at my chest and putting hers on.
We walked out the door and got into her new Jeep.
"So, how are you?" My mom said awkwardly, trying to start a conversation.
"I'm okay, I guess."
"What can I do to help?"
"Mom its not you or dad. My family life is fine."
"Sweetie is it your social life?"
Silence.
"You know, Megan would've loved if you continued your life. She would've lived on if it had been you." She continued.
"I AM living!" I almost scream.
My mom looked at me like I was crazy but said nothing for the rest of the ride.

"Hey goth girl!" Some girls said as I walked to my locker.
"Ugly and quiet, how are you?"
"Look how pale she is!"
"Ew, why is she here."
"Go die in a hole loser!"
"She doesn't even have one friend."
I walk to my locker, turning the combination. I look around. Gray lockers surrounding me, closing me in.
I open it and put my bag on one of the shelves and then slowly begin to walk to my classroom.
*push*
I fell over and dropped all of my books. I glance up to see Rosemont Highs most popular guy.
Was I like this before Megan's death?
Then another boy fell on top of my lap.
"You guys should be in love."
"Ya, two geeks that deserve each other."
They walked away. Laughing and chattering with each other.
"Sorry," said a voice in front of me.
It was the boy that had been pushed on top of me.
"It's fine." I said as he bent down and grabbed some of my books.
"I'm Ethan." He said.
"I'm Sophia."
"Cool." Ethan said as he handed me my books.
The sleeves of his shirt slid down revealing the scars from self harm.
"Wanna sit with me," he said. "At lunch?"
"Um okay." I said kind of quiet.
"Ok, well see you later." Ethan said as he walked away.
And for the first time in 2 years I smiled.

"Hi." I said as Ethan sat down next to me.
"Hello."
We ate for a little bit and then Ethan said something that no one had ever said before.
"What happened to you?"
"What?" I asked, not knowing if I heard him right.
"What made you an outcast."
"How could you tell that I wasn't always an outcast?"
"Your gorgeous." He said as he smiled.
"What happened to YOU?" I asked.
"My mum and dad died in a car crash."
"Oh, Ethan, Im so sorry!" I said.
"It's alright." He said. "I live with my grandma and little brother. So now what about you?"
"My bestfriend was shot and died." I said, mustering up all of my strength just to say that.
He looked at me. He sat there staring into my eyes.
"You self harm."
"What?" He said.
"You cut."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Ethan, I saw the scars."
"Oh." He said pulling down his sleeves.
"It's okay," I say. "I overdose."
"Don't do that Sophia! It could kill you!"
"Why do you care?"
"Because its not worth it."
"Worth what? Being depressed for the rest of my life? If I died I would be with Megan."
"But how about who you are leaving. Your family, your old friends, me."
"Ethan, my family understand. My old friends left me to stay popular. And I don't even know you."
"You know my darkest secrets." Ethan said.
"So."
"So, no one knows."
He continued. "No one knows that my parents died in a car crash, no one knows that my bestfriends dad was with them. No one knows that after that everyone hated me, especially my best friend. No one knows that I live with my grandma. No one knows that I self harm every day. No one knows that my grandma is alcoholic and hurts me and my brother. No one knows that I'm only alive for my brother."
"I'm so sorry." I said quickly.
"No your not, you don't care, your just like everyone else."
"And do you wanna know who my best friend was."
Silence. Awkward.
"That guy." He pointed at the popular table where a guy sat with a ton of people surrounding him listening to what he said.
"Yes, the one that pushed me on top of you, the one that makes my life a living hell, the one that blames me for his fathers death, the one that doesn't understand what I lost too. Yes, Sophia, your not the only one who's life sucks."
Idk if this is long enough? I'm working on another book too that should come out soon. It's like a romance sorta. If you know how to make good covers just message me here! Plz vote vote vote!
Thanks!
