Hey, y'all!
Just a quick note before the story starts. First of all, I wanna thank y'all SO much for checking it out! This is my first Cole fic and the first story I've written in a pretty long time. It is, obviously, based on the song 'Stay,' by Sugarland. I've always adores that song and felt like it could be the basis of an awesome fanfic...which is what I hope I'm delivering right now!
Obviously, I don't own anything that is publicly recognizable...which basically means that I don't own anything except the original characters of Hailey and Kathryn. Katie is based on Katie Morris, who was supposedly dating Cole a few years back. Cole, of course, portrays himself.
The lyrics of the song appear in bold italics before the section of the story that they represent.
Again, thanks so much for reading! Please don't hesitate to let me know what you think!

Stay
A Cole Swindell fanfic
Based on the song 'Stay,' by SugarlandI've been sitting here, staring at the clock on the wall. And I've been laying here, praying; praying she won't call. It's just another call from home. You'll get it and be gone, and I'll be crying.
"You were amazing, baby girl."
A smile plays on my lips as i hear Cole's breathless voice speak those words. With my eyes still closed, I snuggle into his side, resting my head against his chest and listening to his racing heartbeat.
"You weren't so bad yourself." Once I catch my breath, I raise my head to place a kiss on his lips. "It honestly feels like it just gets better every time."
"It really does," he agrees, ruffling my hair as I lay back down against him. "It's definitely been the highlight of my week."
I bite my lip, not saying anything. Peeking at the clock on the wall across from the bed, I feel my throat tighten. I know that it more than likely won't be long before the worst part of my week will be happening.
He's been here for three hours. Typically, our evenings together don't last much longer than that. In the same way that I watch the clock here, Katie watches the clock in their home. She's never shy about calling to ask him when he's coming home, nor does she hesitate to let him know she believes he should come home right then. I can't say I blame her; three hours spent away from Cole is incredibly too long. even three seconds away from him is torture.
Still, a little part of me always holds out hope; always prays that maybe tonight, she won't call to steal him away from me.
"What is she doing?" I ask softly, chewing my lower lip as my fingertips trace absentminded patterns on his chest.
"She's out with her sister," Cole replies, his hand stroking my hair. "I told her I'd probably be later than usual tonight; said Ashley had an idea for a new song and we'd probably hang around his place and drink for a while after i finished up at the studio. Her sister's staying over tonight, so she didn't ask too many questions."
"So..." I prop myself up on my elbow, feeling another smile tug at the corners of my mouth as i gaze into his breathtaking blue eyes. "What you're saying is...we have more time?"
"We've got all night." He grins back at me before moving so that his body is hovering over mine and brushing his lips against mine. "So, what do you say we put it to good use?"
