Prologue:
The scientist was keeping an eye on the computer monitor like he always did. This was his job. Everyday for eight hours straight he would come here, sit down, and watch the monitor for any changes in the constant stream of data. Six years training and studying in the field of science at Harvard University and this was his job. When he applied for the job, he figured he would be able to put his skills to the test. He would be conducting experiments, and slowly but surely rise up in the world of science. But no. Instead he just sits for hours, being bored.
What a waste of my talents. He thought as he glanced at the clock. He wished something would happen. At the end of every work day, he was required to file in a report stating what had gone on with the data, and everyday it was the same. No changes. Nothing happened. The most exciting part of his day was when they were able to eat the lunch they had packed. The scientist found it ridiculous that he had to eat while watching the monitor. Its not like it ever changes. Its always just a constant line.

The scientist woke up to a loud beeping noise. Wait, beeping?
Now that can't be right. The scientist thought. He glanced at his monitor and nearly had a heart attack.
The data had changed.
The scientist began to panic. He had recieved a small amount of training for what to do in this situation when he had accepted the job five years ago. He couldn't bring himself to remember in his panic induced haze what he was supposed to do. He began calling for help. A secretary from the nearby room came rushing in. She took one look at the monitor, and her face turned a deathly pale white. She immediately turned and hit the alarm on the wall.
The data change meant that something was wrong with the experiments.
